I bought the ZL1 NEW in 2017 (employee discount) and sold it 1 year later. Didn't lose a cent. It's truly amazing, even better than this quick review. This is no longer "pony car" territory. It's true sports car, bordering on supercar performance. My only complaint was the bolstering of the Recaro seats was way too tight for my (um) frame. ;-)

I want this car. but I'm gonna hold off until the following year. the auto seems like the way to go with near 200 mph top speed,but I'm an old school manual transmission person. they seem to be somewhat slower than the automatic on the top end,but I'm not planning on going 200 mph anywhere so the stick is what I'm gonna get.

That car is really growing on me but I need a manual (stick shift not paddle) review to compare it to the GT350R and GT500. Right now I'm leaning towards the upcoming 500 or R. Performances are similar enough for me not to be swayed one way or another so its about feel (stick shift), size and overall looks. I don't see the need for a large car I don't intend on having more than one occasional passenger.

This is a good example of what engineers can do when let go and do their best. I drive a 13 SS 1LE and that car is just beautiful to drive! The handling is great, grip is unbelieveable and while it is firm, the suspension doesn't beat you up while driving normally (on the road...). Being a 1LE, it is a manual and it actually shifts like a dream, clutch action is just slightly firmer than the one in my Civic and the shifter works better and is also more precise in the Camaro too, funny eh? I was skeptical at first and was delightfully surprised with my test drive. I can only imagine how these 6th gen cars drive! That being said, if you're looking for a manual car, go for it, it's great fun! I have yet to drive one of these 10 speed cars with the paddle shifters, they also look like fun. You guys drive your Camaros until the wheels falll off, when they do, just bolt them back on and drive some more!

Justin Bouche gt350 is considered old news now but it is still limited production and will hold its value more than the ZL1. ZL1 is a budget all around beast and there is no competition right now for the performance per price standpoint! Chevy did well with this generation.

ok? either way the GT500 will remain a drag racer as per Shelby's wishes. so like the last gen GT500 VS the ZL1 the ZL1 will remain the more sophisticated, better handling, more dynamic sports car while the GT500 will simply be another 1 dimensional straight line car.

Even if Ford develops a 700+ hp monster, what platform will they use ? The reason the ZL1 outperformed the Corvette Grand Sport is because of the Alpha chassis and that magna-ride suspension, something the current Mustang can’t come close to matching unless they’ve developed a new chassis or are borrowing one from a previous model.

If you know the answer to that on on the manual while in 6th gear that what be great. Trying to figure out long distance hwy travel and rpm's. Thanks I would like to get one by the end of the year.

duesing6 LOL what rock have you lived under the last 10 years ?!! "Ford waits, copies, is a follower" again lol. How much was Ford following GM when GM wasn't even producing the Camaro lol ?.... Mustang production continued on. You forget about the GT500 ? GM had nothing. You forget about the GT350 ? out before this, naturally aspirated and not only hangs with it but have seen both the GT350 and GT350R beat it. Ford ain't following GM with the new GT500, this is a car Ford has already been producing and only finalizing production on the next version of it. Ford still had this current Camaro beat half a decade ago with power and still does ! What about the Raptor ? GM never has and still has nothing to compete with it. You're an idiot if you actually believe what you stated and think Ford follows everything GM does !

They really need to stop calling these cars, "Muscle Cars". With all the tech, engineering, and development time behind these cars they are Sports Car or Track Cars. Wish they would shut up with that muscle car garbage. These cars can brake and corner just as well as they can accelerate.
@cpufreak101
@cpufreak101 7 жыл бұрын
It's because the Camaro originally came out as a pony/muscle car, so as a result, that's kind of what it will always be seen as, this is simply a "heavily track focused muscle car"
@sanosuke2999
@sanosuke2999 7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with that point, but it just feels like journalistic laziness. For example the Mitsubishi Eclipse is now a cross over. Things change and get re-branded. We have actual muscle cars, that fit the definition perfectly like the Hell Cats.

For all of the people THINKING the 6-speed manual is faster than the 10-speed auto during Motor Trend's Willow Springs testing, Randy RE-TESTED the automatic because it had too much air pressure in the front tires. The 10-speed automatic went more than 6/10s of a second quicker than the 6-speed. Read the last two paragraphs at the bottom of the article. www.motortrend.com/cars/chevrolet/camaro/2017/2017-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-first-test-brute-squad-goals/ I prefer the 6-speed myself but it IS in fact slower than the automatic, just like all other similar cars tested with both manual and automatics of the modern era.

FishFind3000 it's all the traction control nannies that they left on. If the car feels it's about to go into a uncontrolled skid it decides which tire to apply breaks to bring it back in line. Most professionals turn that stuff off in these tutorials. Apparently not for this one.

Buyer beware! I bought a new camaro ZL1 earlier this year (March 2017). At a sticker price of almost $70k, it had every option checked off. The car drove great over the first month of ownership. It has been a train wreck ever since. With less than 1700 miles, the engine had to be replaced due to a valve head that broke off the stem in the engine. Since the replacement, I have been to the dealership at least 10 different times for various issues (coolant leaks, audio not coming on, alignment issues etc). Over the 9 months of ownership, it has been at the dealer over 60+ days. I have asked for a replacement and had to go so far as to file a BBB claim to get GM's attention. Still nothing. My first GM purchase and it will likely be my last if this situation is not resolved.
