As someone who runs well under 2:00, would not recommend trying to negative or flat split the 800. The best way, and what any collegiate coach would say, is to run an 800 with a positive split, meaning run the first lap faster than the second. Ideally should be about 2-3 seconds slower the second lap. But everyone is different.

During the off-season In HS my coach would make all the mid distance runners (800-1600) load up on miles before we started doing any speed work before track season started. Lots of long runs with hills, even swimming on certain days For laps. Once season started we would do 400 repeats, 800 treats, 500s, 300s etc. but we were conditioned enough to run intervals because of the offseason. We also didn’t neglect weight training either. Middle distance runners gotta have a strong base and a balance in my opinion!
@michaelhawkes23305 жыл бұрын
these are not 800 meter runners. And if they are, get them ouf the track and in the trails just getting their areobic base up because the slipping in a short workout like this means they are not areobicly fit enough

I’m a sprinter/pole vaulter and I’m thinking about changing from sprints over to the 800. All I know is that I can run a 39.16 300m indoors. Compared to my teammates I have the best acceleration but my top speed lets me down. But I can also hold my sprint for a long time and that allows me to beat people faster than me in the 300. I want to push myself and try the 800, it’s a lot different but I think with training I could be better.

Your 200m marks were way off, they were starting at the 400m start and not cutting in, the 400m start is on a three turn stagger. By starting and staying in the middle of the track their 200m mark is about 15 meters past where you called it at. This is basic track knowledge, I don’t think you’re necessarily in a place to coach adequately.
