C&L Finescale have been selling what they call 'HiNi' rail for quite some time. This is short for 'High Nickel'. Standard nickel silver rail has around 12% of nickel in it and tends to look quite yellow in appearance. C&L’s specially designed 'HiNi' rail has 18% of nickel and as a result it looks much more like steel rail. They do bullhead Flexi Track in OO, EM and P4 teack guages.

just so as not to create the wrong impression, though the DCCC bullhead track is good, it is NOT the only 00 scale bullhead track available - the 'rival' [PECO as we all know!] also do a very realistic BH track, and the old SMP Scaleway track is still available, though its representation of the chairs is rather thin. However the 'bees knees' is the C&L brand which has been around for several years, and is also available in EM gauge and P4 gauge

@John-Tropi2 жыл бұрын
@@tenterdentown2452"In the business a long time" can lead to complacency. Peco is good and I like their products. But it is certainly not cheap and some people do consider it over-priced. So it is natural to question whether you have an actual REASON for automatically presuming that Peco's points price cannot be matched or beaten, when the one real fact we do have to hand is that, for plain track, their price HAS been matched! On that factual basis, it seems very likely that their points price COULD be matched. However, since there's no possibility of knowing whether DCC points will ever or never be made, it's pretty pointless(!) to make wild predictions about the future price of what is, and might well remain, vapor-ware.

What we need now is a code 100 version of bullhead track or at least the rail so that it can be soldered to PCB sleepers or the Legacy range of point bases. Code 100 is essential if you have a large fleet of stock from early Triang to the latest OO items. At the moment we are stuck with Hornby or Peco code 100 track that uses flat bottom rail and that is not realistic if modelling the Big Four era of British railways.

To keep track from kinking on curves I always solder the joints in a straight line. I have soldered s many pieces as 4 at one time. You have to loose some sleepers when bending to the radius but they can be put back in after the main sections of track are glued down. I do like that there is quite a bit of track sticking out from the ends of each piece. Most have very little. The ends have to be modified to get space for the fish plates. Thank God that I don't have to worry about track cleaning except for the large particles of dirt that will at times collect on the track. I have converted to complete battery power and have absolutely no power in the track at all... My engines will run on a table top with out track, on a DC layout, or a DCC layout, or on track that is not electrified at all. Also I have no shorts possible..

Oh Dear, I've already ordered some, because DCC Concepts stated that the sleepers are UK prototypical, so therefore ought to closely match the Bullhead track sleepering, but your video shows that's not the case. I needed some flat bottom track to lay on an up line alongside a down line laid with bullhead track, this was typical in the 1950's and 60's. What a waste of money!
@richardbrighton77372 жыл бұрын
Hi Eve - I've got your email - sorry I haven't responded yet. The flat bottomed track has always been promoted as having slightly longer and wider sleepers, spaced slightly further apart than other brands (to make it more acceptable at OO), but it still has to be visually compatible with established point work or it would look odd. We've never said that the flat bottomed track is prototypically scaled for OO. The Bullhead track is accurate for OO, with sleepers spaced much further apart.
