Greater Lincolnshire, a key player in UK agriculture, is facing the growing threat of groundwater salinization, which could disrupt crop yields and food security. Project Groundwater Lincolnshire is tackling this issue by monitoring groundwater systems and salt levels, collecting data from wells installed on farmland.
The research aims to safeguard the region’s agricultural future and mitigate the potential £100 million annual impact on the food economy. As salinisation poses a national threat, the project’s findings will be crucial in protecting both local and UK-wide food production.
