TrackingAngle Visits Welcome to 1979, Nashville

You don't want to miss this visit to Chris Mara's Welcome to 1979. It's a most unique "one stop" analog pleasure center. In a 33,000 square foot building that once housed a pressing plant you'll see an old school "shoe box" recording studio, rooms of vintage keyboards, a lacquer plating facility, an MCI tape machine "salvage yard" and restoration facility, a Neumann cutting lathe and a large main control room equipped with a late 70s era restored MCI board, MCI 24 track 2" recorder, and racks of vintage effects and signal processing gear. The last place I toured like this was Peerless records in Mexico City, back in 1985. Amazing consoles, ATRs, and full-fledged cutting, fully automated press and cover print with CYMK offset printing. Basically just like here. Trip down memory lane. I see these images and I can remember the smell of each area. I was 7 years old but I can remember it just as if I've been 35. I was just just into the process as I am now that I'm 46. What I would give to be able to make a living out of this endangered trade...

Chris actually sold me my MARA Machine over the phone & email. They took care of me when it had a playback issue. Mine's just 1/4 inch 2 track, but a very cool machine The construction is very modular. Very different than a consumer machine.

If it was mine, I would say do not touch on all the vintage equipment. Furthermore analog is no longer pure analog, unfortunately a digital component is required to make the overpriced vinyl that we are now buying. Sheesh

We encourage people to touch and use all of our equipment! We can record totally digital, totally analog (even reverbs!) and anything in between.
