Great video. I really enjoyed seeing how the two irons compared. I was thinking about looking at the new P790s but might consider the older model also if the performance is that similar and I can save some money. Any thoughts on how the P790s compare to the Ping i500s? That's the other iron that has me most interested in changing from my current set.

From a performance standpoint, i500 and P790 should match up well. Both will offer plenty of ball speed and high launch. They're also pretty similar in terms of feel. P790 might have a slight edge in terms of forgiveness while the i500 probably has the more traditional look at address in terms of a thinner topline and less offset. Two great irons though - you really can't go wrong with either in the players distance category. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@2ndswing I am looking to update my irons from the Taylormade Rocketbladez. Are the P790 a good choice to go with coming from rocketbladez. Usually i shoot 80-85 on average. The rocketbladez due to the offset causes my miss to be left . Not sure if I’m good enough to play the P770.

I just switched from rocketbladez to the 2019 p790 and I’m a different player, would definitely recommend getting these. I’m pounding the ball with high, long, consistent ball flight. Legit can control my hook now

I have Rocketbladez and been considering switching to p790 for less offset. The Rocketbladez cause me to hit a hook . Did you have to make a adjustments in your swing when you switched ?

@@ariesnc6320 not that I know of! Swing stayed relatively the same as I have played them I can tell my big miss is draw/hook but that’s more of a club path issue than the club! Would rather have that than a shank or uncontrollable slice

I wonder what the launch angle comparison is with your muscle back vs the p790’s?
@theamaturegolfer77985 жыл бұрын
I want p790’s I’d go for the older model as there isn’t anything in it performance wise. But it all depends on if I can be fitted for the older model & if they still sell them. As getting fitted is most important.

Why are the newer models shorter in shaft length ? I talked to Taylormade and they said they changed the way they measure but the 7 iron is not 37”Iike specs say
@thomascampbellgolf4 жыл бұрын
That is a very good question. If you look on TaylorMade's website you will see under the specs it says 37" is STD length for a P790 7iron. On my custom order documents sent to TaylorMade It helps to request playing length of 7iron. The difference comes with the progressive length v traditional length that TaylorMade offers in their custom irons. P790 irons should be the traditional length. TaylorMade also have changed their length measurement system to ground plane from the old pin method. For peace of mind the length that will arrive is the exact same as the fitting shaft that was used by your fitter to fit you into the correct length. So I do suggest measuring the playing length of the fitting shaft if you want to know the exact length that will arrive.

Hitting 195 + yards with a 7 iron is not an average or weekend golfer’s swing speeds. But the video is very informative and helpful

ThankT Rick for the feed back. We have been implementing testing with different handicap players. Our master fitter provides consistency through our testing and comparison.

How could one be shorter than the other? The 790 is literally taken from the length of the clubhead?

I have been playing the P790´s for 1,5 years now. changed from the AP2 716. Happy to get back some of the distance i lost with getting a bit older. Long-short dispersion is better with the TM´s. No problem stopping the ball on firm greens. Nice new package but no urge to change yet... The stronger lofts are now getting more of the new standard. Even getting stronger in the newer player distance group it seems

I need new irons and I think these are gonna be them! But I gotta be fitted first and see what they think
@2ndswing5 жыл бұрын
Definitely a great option - the more we test them, the more we're impressed. The distance and launch is what you'd expect, but for irons that are so long they're very consistent.

2nd Swing Golf that’s great to hear I need more distance and my ball flight is already high as is so I feel once I actually hit these I’ll fall in love

Dispersion is not good with either set. Be honest boys. On course you don’t want gaps this large.
