Currently using 7/8 year old irons. These look to have improved on my biggest worry with the 790s from 2 years ago. The front to back dispersion was too much of a negative for me. Can’t wait to try these for myself and see the difference.

A very good test. The drop off in spin rate worries me. Us average golfers do not have the club head speed you have so our spin rates will be lower. On that basis the P790 7i spins lower than my i210 6i even though the lofts are very similar. This is something that an average golfer would need to test out on the course with hard summer greens, I think the height of the ball flight would provide some stopping power but I cannot see how a 5i P790 would have any stop - but as I struggle to hit a 5i maybe that is not the biggest problem!

Offset is identical to the old model according to the manufacturer and specs. Perhaps the fitting club used here for the original version has a thicker hosel and ferrule, making it look different.
@MichaelNewtonGolf5 жыл бұрын
Definitely a look of less offset, fitting iron hosel and shape/size exactly the same

Can you compare against Apex and hot metal pro?

I would love to see comparison between these and Titleist T200 because that was my dilemma with the originals and AP3’s.

Got fitted last week. For irons and it came down to the p790 t200 and mizuno jpx and they were all. Similar in stats. Probably small bit more distance with p790 but only 2 or 3 yards! I went for looks in the end and the p790 just looked the best to look down on in my opinion

Forgiveness is the big sell in regards to the newer Vs older model. Hard to figure improved forgiveness unless you have them in your hands and play with them. From the research I’ve done so far, don’t think I can justify the upgrade. TaylorMade did a hell of a job with the original P790. I’ll stick with the ones I have for a few more years.

Were you testing with the 5X or 5? Any discernible differences in spin, etc?
@legend90185 жыл бұрын
Great comparison, I have to say I don’t like the shiny sole on the new P790, I prefer the matte finish of the original model. Been my experience that this finishes tend to scuff moreso than the matte. Keep up the good work 🏌🏻♂️

I played the old P790 and the new ones. Dropped my handicap to 6,1. now I switched to the P730. Massive difference. Not so long, but so buttery and exact. Live the P730. The P790 are in my opinion in the range hcp 40-10

Take the 3rd shot out for the old P790 (worst shot by far) and the numbers are very similar between both. New one looks way better though.

This is hilarious. 2017 P790 7 iron offset: 2.7mm 2019 P790 7 iron offset: 2.7mm Yes, huge difference.

Looked at the same thing. He’s just presenting more loft in the video which gives the appearance there’s less offset.

Wow, I didn't think the 790's could get longer/better but they are. I game 770's and love the feel but I do wish I had a bit more forgiveness while keeping the reduced offset. 790's may find their way back into my bag after I sold the first generation ones.
@griffeyfan04775 жыл бұрын
I went from 770's to the 2017 790's and I wish I would have switched sooner. You have to be a good striker to hit the 770's, I am a 6 handicap but never a great ball striker and these 790's are just stupid easy and forgiving yet still look nice. The 770's do not forgive much of anything
@natjam135 жыл бұрын
I prefer the matte finish on the original 790s. I definitely won’t be upgrading.

I'm in the same boat. I do like the cleaner logo but hate the chrome finish on the new one. Glad I have my oldies :)

The new model is 0.25 inch longer than the previous model. Would that account for more ball speed?

In the video it shows 17 shots at the top of the screen but he only compares 10 shots. What did the other 7 shots do? A good review shows what the bad shots are also. As a golfer I want to know what my misses are with a club. On the misses right is the club loosing 5 yards or am i loosing 15?
@andya26655 жыл бұрын
Do people get a free upgrade if they bought the older style? Tired of companies selling you a premium club only to upgrade it and make you feel bad for buying their product. I buy nothing but used.
