Great idea. Could this replace a bigger tablesaw when workshop space is an issue? I currently have a Dewalt saw but like a saw with a rolling table. Unfortunately my space is a bit limited. I like to work with massive wood more then with panels
@NewBritWorkshop2 күн бұрын
As long as your tracksaw can handle the wood that you want to cut then a tracksaw cutting station will be a good solution. It is particularly useful when sapce is limited as it can be easily moved and even put to one side when not in use. Cheers. Peter

Hi Peter an interesting video. Sorry to hear about your computer. I wish to ask what setting for the depth of blade when cutting a 16 or 18 mm with the Festool l plunge saw so that you do not cut through the cutting station. My cutting station is 19 mm MDF. Thank you.
@NewBritWorkshopАй бұрын
If your tracksaw has a depth gauge then just add 1 mm to the thickness of the wood to be cut. You will get a kerf mark on your tracksaw cutting station top - don't worry about it. It will be a useful guide when planning further cuts. If your saw does not have a depth gauge then put the wood under your track so it is just short of sticking out. Place your saw on the track and plunge down until the blade toughes the top of the tracksaw cutting station. Then add 1 mm unless you have an existing kerf line in which case your trial plunge would have gone down into the kerf channel. Peter

Hi Peter, a small point. I note that your plans for the trestles show the height to the top of the bearers as 900mm which makes the surface 19mm higher than your workshop (Festool) standard height of 900mm. Why did you make the cutting station a little higher?
@NewBritWorkshopАй бұрын
Hi Mike, I would expect people to adjust the height to suit their needs. This original design was to compliment my MFT3 so that I could rest a sheet across the trestle and onto the MFT3. My tracksaw cutting station is just a dash lower. In that original design the removeable block of wood that sits in the channel can be rotated to be 18 mm lower than the standard 900 mm. In those days I had a piece of MDF with a strip at one end that would fit into the channel of my MFT3. The other end would be supported by the trestle with the (18 mm) lower height making the whole thing level at 900 mm height. Cheers. Peter

@@NewBritWorkshop Hi Peter, Understood. It just seemed a bit odd when I looked at the plan. The original was a bit like the portable MFT with its extension table.

Recently watched a US KZbinr who used a red (Woodpecker?) jig for his cutting station and hated it. He got a Parf Guide and loved it. Parf Mk 2 for me at end of summer when I start making a lot of cabinets

I have had many people write to me saying how they have tried so many other ways of making a tracksaw cutting station but nothing can beat the PGS. Cheers. Peter

Peter, do you know if anywhere still sells the green engineers smocks you wear? My Father used to wear them as he was a retired engineer, I’ve been wearing his since he died so fifty plus years between us and I now need a couple of new ones as they’ve all but worn out. I’ve looked for them but cant find any. It’s like loosing old friends.

Just put 'warehouse coats green' into your search enhine. In the UK there are many people selling them. Peter
