I have a WM-8H I’ve had for years and it’s chipped a TON from pine to oak. Zero problems. It’s a beast. My next chipper will be the MX-9900 for sure. They are a great company. Back then I paid $2500 for it. Value was through the roof. I think now that model is $3500. Still a huge value for what you get. Competition couldn’t come close. I love the companies story as to how they got started. Veteran owned who I love to support as well.

I have had a Woodmaxx MX8800 on my Kubota L4760 for about a month. Chipping mostly oak, and I have run a 6 inch log thru it with the tractor barely slowing down. Great chipper!
@C_J_8110 ай бұрын
We have the WM-8H at work paired with a Deere 3720. If you get the right hardwood piece even with the 8" feed it will bog down the 3720 enough that you have to feed the wood in a little and then stop. Also not to be a Safety Sally but consider wearing eye protection when running that chipper the amount of chips and twigs that have ended up in my face make me a total believer when running a chipper. I wear a forestry helmet with a face shield. It saved me at least once when the chipper feed whipped a branch around and into my face.
@barrywiseman701210 ай бұрын
@chadjohnson- As a retired eye doctor, from professional experience I totally agree with your suggestion of eye protection with chainsaws and chippers. As a tractor owner maintaining trails with mowers, chainsaw and occasional rental chipper, there have been a number of times debris was stopped by my safety glasses. Although cumbersome, a face shield would definitely be better, I think this is the year I'll get one for those tasks. Helpful video, Tim & Christy

I love my Woodmaxx 8800. I initially purchased a WoodMaxx WM-8M, the one without the hydraulic feed because when researching different forums folks suggested the hydraulics was "just one more thing to break." While that may be true, the first time something gets stuck in the chipper and there is no easy way to get it out the hydraulic feed is a game changer. After three years I sold the WM-8M for a couple hundred less than I paid for it and replaced it with the 8800.

I went with the Woodland Mills WC46 for my 1023. Woodland Mills recommended that I have more hp for any of their other other models. I was very happy that I went with the hydraulic feed. I was a little worried that the 4 x 6 opening would not be big enough, but then I soon discovered that anything that big, I would cut up for firewood. So, I didn't need anything bigger. I figured I would have to use it less than 30 times to justify buying one vs renting 1. If I actually count the hassle of renting and the convenience of being able to use mine whenever I wanted, I don't have to use it a lot. The only issue I have now is, where do I put all this mulch and wood chips? I had to make a fire pit so I could burn more limbs because otherwise I have too much woodchips. You can't even give the mulch away, let alone sell it.

Also for that wider brush and for things that don't feed well make a wooden pushstick. Put a 9 1/2" long 2x4 on the Ted on the end of a 5 or 6 foot long 1 1/2 to 2" dowel handle. The 9 1/2 will let you push into the neck of the chipper safely but stop the chipper feed from being able to grab it. Though just in case drill, pin and glue the 2x4 with a smaller dowel rather than using metal hardware. A good push stick makes chipping so much easier.
@Materagaia7 ай бұрын
Or you can simply cut a few push sticks out of the branches you’re already chipping. If you should inadvertently send it through the chipper you’re only out the 30 seconds it took you to make it. I work in the tree care industry and that’s what we do everyday. Easy peasy.

Nice review! I bought a few years ago a Woodland Mills 8" chipper and coupled it to a JD 2750 which I believe has around 75 hp pto. I have chipped many trees and branches and it works very well. The chipper has a lower shut-off bar which I've unintentionally and intentionally pushed, I like the position because I can access the bar with hand, arm and knee which I've done because of gloves getting caught amongst thorns, apple tree branching and wild plum branches. You have a nice path of low lying material which would be almost a pleasure to chip! Thank You!

Glad to see you having fun with the chipper - they are very handy tools. Saw you wearing hearing protection - but you could comment on the absolute necessity of it. Also heard you talk about trying to feed it w a tractor & grapple - I have done it - you need about 5 or 6' of stem sticking out of the grapple. Come up at a slight angle with the grapple down, then slowly back up turning as tightly as you can to swing the load into the chipper and when you feel the infeed rollers grabbing the load slowly open the grapple. I've had much better luck doing this with a skid-steer as you can pivot the machine by driving one track forward and the other back. Good luck!!

Yes, hearing protection is needed. When I was younger, I did not wear hearing protection. Paying the penalty now! Wish I had been more vigilant then. Finally got around to watching this. This is the chipper I'd choose now that I've seen it in action and with your comments about it. I've wondered if it was to big. Was going to get one back in '22 after I had the roll over with my tractor with my DR chipper on the back. I ended up fixing mine. Yours does everything I wanted in a chipper. As for lift with my 1026, I can help to lift it if I had too. Don't know if my 26R lifts more than the 25R. Only draw back would be the hills I'm on but my chipper makes me watch what I do and where I travel too because of the weight. I like it. If I had the money, I'd get one. But I'll make do with my DR for now.

@Token_Civilian10 ай бұрын
Nice looking piece of equipment. Interesting that the spec sheet says 'minimum' 25 PTO HP. What's the 1025R? 17? The 9900 gets you the extra 3" of feed size vs the 8600 / 15HP min. Handled what you fed it pretty well, seemed like you had plenty of power. I could see chipping up wood if you wanted to use it as part of a composing program on your property vs burning it. Out west, burn bans are pretty common for much of the summer, so chipping might be the only practical way to get rid of stuff.

Thev’max’ portion of the rating is due to components not being strong enough to handle more than that. For example, gearboxes have HP ratings…exceeding those ratings brings risk.

It would be a lot better review if you'd have gotten one of the smaller chippers they sell that would fit on your tractor, but that wouldn't chip as big of a limb as the bigger chipper. I went to their web site (so you've done your job of marketing their chipper), and I've got a TYM 574HC so I could handle any chipper they sell, but I just don't see these as worth the cost even if they still had a coupon code. It would have been nice seeing how you unclog a stuck log = one the chipper couldn't handle, or at least mock one up like that) because that will happen. Not one of your better video's, because it's obvious your just trying to help them sell these vs. something you actually would want/use.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. By him showing that the 1025r couldn't truly handle this, he did his job. If all he shows is what the tractor can handle, then someone thinking is this bigger size for me would be disappointed. Also, he said they aren't supporting him with the coupon anymore, so he really doesn't have the fiscal reasons to try to help the company sell the chipper. Overall, this video showed me that a 1025r can't handle this which is is very useful.

@TractorTimewithTim10 ай бұрын
Yes, I think so. I intentionally used the 'stock' Johnny for this so that folks could get a good feel for the combination. Not only would Johnny X lift it easily due to the increased Hydraulic pressure, it would also have 30% more power at the PTO to chip!

Tim the feed will pause at times until the cutters build up the right R.P.M.

I could not tell for sure if that was the case. Is it? Are you certain of that?
@mattphillips426010 ай бұрын
think i would go with the 8800 even on a kubota i rather not have to help the tractor lift it i think you would end up breaking lift arms on the upper rock shaft the 8800 may be slower but myself i would be ok with that
@TractorTimewithTim10 ай бұрын
You won’t hurt either one with a 9900. Just a small pressure adjustment to make the 1025r lift it easily.

for me i rather not go changing what deere or any company has their hyd systems set at this is just me and me only so what if it takes extra time to grind up a pile or any job that needs extra to lift or anything @@TractorTimewithTim

Thank you guys for not rubbing my nose in the fact that I don't have a set of the Stihl headsets yet. I may have to have two of them. It isn't what you think, my wife is retiring this year and I need someone for her to talk to. ba dum tss Good choice for verses and that is so true. If the creators don't include something from the Bible there's a good chance that commenters can't. In my case if I say anything remotely biblical it doesn't get printed. That's ok, that's the way China does it except you're never seen again. Baby steps at first...

We had a cat once that was not afraid of nosies like that.

This one is a nut. It will ride the tractor with us, even when mowing. Open station, cab, doesn’t matter.

@@TractorTimewithTim Well. The one I mentioned did the same thing. I was sawing a 6’ long log once when it was small with a chainsaw. I was cutting at one end. The cat was sitting on the log, I was cutting, at the other end. I would follow us around in the yard or woods like a dog. The cat was nicknamed, CatDog. She died a couple of years ago. Around 16 years old. 👋👍🏻

You could make a 9” x 9” square to better show folks how small of a hole your trying to get the bushy brush shoved into.

So why didn't you give the price ? Nope go to the link so we have to waist our time to find out it's way to expensive for anyone .

Because prices change, and I cannot change the video. How long did it take you, 3 seconds? Good grief.
