First time I ever heard Tracy Chapman was 36 or more years ago! I had radio on near my bed and her voice woke me from a nap. I was enthralled! I love the song and her tone and delivery. Just awesome.

Wonderful. This is the classic Chicago electric blues style that influenced nearly every guitarist, including Clapton, in the 60s and 70s. Those runs are so familiar to him he could play them in his sleep. I'm not suggesting he did but he could. I started playing blues guitar in the late 60s but I went the acoustic country blues route. My influences were Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Lightning Hopkins, Robert Johnson etc. I played locally with a harmonica player who was more talented on his instrument than I was on mine. I improved but we broke up when he caught religion from his girlfriend. If I couldn't play "Hellhound on My Trail", "Crossroads" or "Me and the Devil Blues", I was out. It was fun while it lasted. But enough about me. The big surprise for me was how well Tracy fitted into that style. Loved it.

It's interesting - Give Me One Reason is my least favorite Tracy Chapman song. It wasn't until many, MANY years later that I actually listened to the rest of the album this was on because I disliked this song so much, and it turns out I liked every other song on that album except for this one. I just prefer her more issue-oriented songs over this one - the folk-rock that made her famous in the first place. I just don't enjoy this song, even with the powerhouse combo of her and Eric Clapton here. Sigh.
