False breakouts happen more frequently than most think. The key is being able to recognize the probable shift by observing price action. The 15 EMA is a more conservative approach, which should increase the probabilities of success, however it usually comes with increased risk when it doesn't play out. A more aggressive approach, would be to enter a trade as soon as price re-enters the BB zone and setting the stop just above the high of the breakout candle. You may be taken out more often than you'd like, however the risk should be small. You can have a few of those in a row and all it takes is one to go the right direction and you would more than make up for the small losses. Months ago you mentioned a 'particular' chapter in Farley's Master Swing Trader book. I managed to pry it out of my son's hands. What I can't recall is the chapter you said was SO important to you. I made a 5k /ES trade this am using this…it looked like there was an impending bear BO lower down, after a legit BO earlier, with the BB down crossing the Keltner channel (not discussed here) and the price bar red and peeping below the BB in a fake BO…but the cycle indicator showed a high probability low so I bought/bought/bought…then I got out conservatively when it reversed and shot up, exiting a few pips below the 15 ema …I could have held on for multiple X more as price shot all the way up near the top BB but I was very happy with recognizing the ‘fake out, not a BO’ and the nice profit.

Hi Dr Barry, always learn something new from you and I am going to purchase your system within these few days. I incorporated one of your free teaching techniques (SMA50) to my existing system, it improves the result significantly. I grew my account from $10,000 to $11,611 from 30 Apr to 3 May 2024. But I must say it was a demo trading, and I had some lucks from Friday Non-Farm Payroll as well, which I would otherwise avoid in my live account. I have not placed your cycle indicator onto a chart to learn about its nuances. But if it can fine pick as you indicate on this chart, it is as close to magic as I have ever seen. Using pure price action alone, I never would see a sound basis for shorting at the top red bar inside the square.....However, I would see a valid reason to short at the second lower red...How come? I call that setup a failed top quad...Take a look at the second green. Demonstrates the bulls are weakening. Compare the second green to the first green. Now sometimes, a second small green can appear, making up for that small green bar. Instead, a red bar appears. larger than the small green. This pattern regularly works. Having said that, I want confluence... additional confirmation such as it happens at a down trend moving average. Your cycle indicator would cause me to pull the trigger at the second red bars open.....I name this setup a quad since it has.........four bars....PS...You are a master with indicators.

I'm watching and like your approach. Probably will test it with different time frames.

Hi Dr Barry, I have a few questions: (1) Just want to be sure MA15 is exponential not simple (the MA50 is simple), (2) I like Fibo numbers and the closest is 13, not sure if EMA13 instead of EMA15 can work? (3) If we have very strong confirmations from Cycle and/or EMA15, can we trade the same direction as well instead of the opposite?

Thank you for your questions, and yes I use the 15 EMA and the 50 SMA. Using other indicators along with this pattern will always increase the probability of success.

Barry i have good trading strategies, but in cannot time the Market in general to sync the stock with the sector and industry for timing, in other words i may be trading in any specific industry and sector at the wrong time, im a swing trader, and i need consistency, will your system help me?

Would this be considered volatility trading as opposed to trend trading? Or can you (should you) use both a trend indicator and BB at the same time?

Great question! It is volatility trading, but if trading the Bollinger Band Squeeze fakeout, back into the direction of the trend, that would be a higher probability trade. Dang you're smart! 😀

I always use a Buy Stop to take me into any play. If it doesn’t hit by buy I let it go bc I’m wrong.

why doesn't the BB follow the bell curve rule? Its a 2 SD indicator, so what gives?

Great question!!! It generally does, but because the markets are always moving the bell curve of the market is not static, it's also moving with each new bar formed.
