An eye-opening and inspiring speech from ethnobotanist and mystic, Terence McKenna on the mysteries of our universe.
Will Humanity Ever Understand?
“Ego is a structure that is erected by a neurotic individual who is a member of a neurotic culture against the facts of the matter. And culture, which we put on like an overcoat, is the collectivized consensus about what sort of neurotic behaviors are acceptable.”
Terence McKenna (1946 - 2000)

T&H Inspiration is on a mission to share inspiring wisdom. The goal is to have you pause, think, and reflect. Many of our videos revolve around the extraordinary teachings of Alan Watts that we produce with permission from the Alan Watts Electronic University.
T&H also films and releases original interviews with iconic people who have experienced successes, while also persevering through life's highs and lows. We look forward to sharing more of these perspectives and insights.
Our hope with these videos is to push your thinking. As Alan Watts said “No one is more dangerously insane than one who is sane all the time: he is like a steel bridge without flexibility, and the order of his life is rigid and brittle.” - Alan Watts.

@sylicon yeah, but KZbin premium also includes KZbin music. So if you have an iPhone or just don’t wanna risk finding sketchy mp3s, or if you aren’t already paying for Spotify, it’s worth it. I see it as about 16 bucks for no ads, offline videos and movies, an ad fee music service, and some content is restricted only to premium users. I think even some movies are discounted to buy/rent if you have premium. But I get not wanting to put more money in googles pocket.

@@miriangraafsma9732I think that was an ignorant remark. People have quoted inspirational words for millennia. Some things other people say are more eloquent that what another might come up with. People have quoted others for a long time. That's one of the things people do. What you had to say added nothing to the human experience but reading what Marcus Aurelius said hundreds and hundreds of years ago was lovely. It told me people have expressed the importance of gratitude that we ARE alive for a long time. This is a timeless concept. There is nothing wrong with quoting someone

The present is a point on a linear time scale that is defined as separating the past from the future. The past does not exist. It has gone. The future doesn't exist. Therefore the present can't exist. What needs to be brought into awareness is the sense of becoming.

To act like you NEVER go back to the past NOR think about your future is a little much. Come back down to earth and act like humans. It's not a problem to be normal. To act as if you are in the present or have control of it 100% of your life is ridiculous. You know this. Happy to remind you, though.

Exactly. I am fascinated by the subject of nature the universe and spirituality. I was feeling really down today, because of the sinister narratives in most documentaries. It's like I could scream. This video just popped up first tonight, I suppose the algorithm and surveillance technology on my phone is able to hear my sighs and thoughts. This is exactly what I've been thinking, but nobody wants to understand this, except my son and he's away on business. I miss adult conversations that matter. Most of my family have transcended and the rest don't speak to each other. Sad, I miss those robust meaningful conversations. 😢

I'm not here for a debate on it, but I've had a glimpse at what we are, where we come come from, how we came to be, and where we will go when our vessel has worn out. More importantly, I was given the knowledge of WHY. WHY WE ARE HERE. That's becoming less important to scientists. I assure you it's the most important. Without typing a book, I'll advise anyone reading this that the most important thing you will do today is tell someone you love that you love them, and you cherish the fact they love you. The power of that is what's at the core of EVERYTHING is in that. Even things you can't touch, taste, smell, hear, or feel. That’s the meaning of life. If you want to find your purpose, go do the same for a stranger that looks like they need to hear it.

When you watch it twice right away, you know you got something deep going on. He is spot on. I was always good at math but I also hated the specific scientific way of math. I had fun doing algebra and I never cared for the result. I also had right results and got minus points for doing it incorrectly. All these things are annoying. They don't do math justice. And reductionism is, as he says correctly, a pathetic attempt to flatten down reality to make it fit into a model that nobody needs. I wish I would have heard that earlier in my life. When he says it it becomes so obvious. I always kinda knew that but now I feel like I can actually explain it to others. The internet is the best thing ever. You can literally listen to everybody. In 50 years we gonna have incredibly smart people.

Humans only want to reproduce to push population numbers and eat nutrients. It would be like if I said why don't the ants work together and create utopia? Can utopia be attained if we have are animal instincts? Would utopia keep humans at top of food chain? Would humans see utopia as stupid and against are instincts?

I may have given this talk more of my consciousness, if hadn’t started it with with ‘we evolved from primates’ everything that comes afterwards is a perspective that I may have been on board with, if this hadn’t just been a ‘talk for the masses’ who are looking for the next new thing rather than the answer. The answer is life. We were given life with an expiry date, and if we are conscious enough to remember that constantly as we go through our life, we will inevitably experience life to its fullest & then realise that we’ve found the answer.

Men being blindfolded through ignorance identifies with this body and all it's instruments, mind, emotions and all the other mental and bodily functions, so this makes him believe that this is it and keeps living the grand illusion of me and mine, you and thine, this and that, all name and form only! Heaping darkness upon darkness as if being shy of the bright light that illuminates everything. Some started questioning, searching for answers, slowly but surely, piece by piece, step by step, exploring ever further, realization dawned and the veil of ignorance fell into shreds.

This man was remarkably adroit, verbally, at laying out what appears to be higher level truths. They say that the right person always comes along, is selected by forces intent on communicating a way, when one is needed. That person arises, through happenstance and circumstance, at the exact moment necessary. They are a fulcrum (if you will). Terence appears to be that person for our crisis riddled times. Now it's on us. Are we listening? I suppose we're going to find out. John~

As of now, I think our purpose is to find our purpose. We know that we know very little about our universe, so untill we know everything (which I don't think we ever will as much as I want to) we can't be scientifically certain about our purpose. Or maybe there is no purpose and it's all random cosmic chaos and our existence will never amount to anything at all which is very discouraging.

Is it possible that you have missed the purpose of psychedelics? The claim of a bettor life is the linear result. The preferred nonlinear result is an awareness that there is more we can’t see yet but you were able to get a sneak preview. No?

@@tonysimmons5729 to be honest I am happier in most cases and I treat people better. I dont worry as much but my sentimental idea of becoming a successful businessman to take care of my family has been kinds shattered because now it's like I realize those things have no value and at the same time. I want to provide a life with the material things that makes them feel good but I'm less motivated because now to me its not as important. I do believe at some point I will find a balance in between the two.. I have only done LSD quite a few times and my experience is alway so profound that I know to myself I'm not ready for any higher level of psychedelics such as ayahuasca, dmt and things of that sort. Its just a bit hard when you grew up religious and believing everything and the bam you learn you basically wasted 17 years or more in that religious construct that limits you more than enables you. That is what I mean.

Yes. What does a better life even mean? Sometimes I wish I could have these conversations with like-minded such as yourself. However, most of the general population has no individual/authentic thoughts. Therefore, when speaking to them about these kinds of subject, they are completely speeches and not interested.

@@RTRRT I know what you about most people not even understanding the conversation. It’s like talking to a wall. “A better life” might take on all sorts of experiences like better health, a more positive attitude, the ability to focus more effectively, sleep better, have better, more complete relationships, have more excitement about things that interest us, feel the fullness of life experiences, have more empathy for others, seek ways to give our time and talents to organizations, be more grateful, feel love more fully, enjoy each moment for exactly what it is, feel empowered to take risks that have large payoffs, stop blaming others for our problems by taking responsibility for them, look for ways to compliment others, mend relationships that have gone wrong or need closure, etc.. the list goes on and on!
