If you were to buy 500 shares that would be your opening order , now if you sell 250 in the same day I understand that would be one day trade , so now what happens if you sell the remaining 250 shares the next day or some other time in the future? Would that just be considered a regular trade? I apologize if this is a silly question but I am just starting my education on trading I am a blank slate. Thanks again Clay!

At 8:00 It can actually be 1, 2 or 3 day trades depending on some factors. True: The default automatically sells the oldest lots bought to newest. Alternate method 1) You can change this with your broker to be the other way around, selling newest lots first. Alternate method 2) You can individuallu choose which lots to sell, even partial amounts of those lots. So, while using the default, this would be 3 trades. Using Alternative method 1: (reversing order with broker) you could sell and have 1 day trade. Using Alternative method 2: You could sell the 400 shares = 1 day trade, sell 200 of the 400 & the 200 stack equaling 2 day trades, you could sell the 100 of the 100 stack, 200 of the 200 and 100 of the 400 equaling 3 day trades.

Started the day with 3 day trades remaining on my margin account, under 25k. Just bought 10 shares of a stock and then another 10 of the same. Still showed I have 3 day trades remaining. In the next single order I sold 15 shares of it and now it shows I have 2 day trades remaining, so 1 was used, even though I dipped into both orders. I do not believe the time frame of 4:45 thru 7:28 is correct. Will test the next trade in the video when my day trade comes back and will let you know the result. Again, thanks for the videos and the knowledge but it seemed to contradict my experience and what I read elsewhere.

I appreciate this a lot. I’ve learned a lot the past month. But I was curious about the rules. Cuz I wanted to buy a few different stocks on Monday & then sell them on Thursday or Friday. & I wasn’t sure how many times I can do that. So is a day trade only based off ones company stock. Like I can buy stocks from 10 companies & sell them all the same day & that’s fine. But I can buy the Same stock multiply times a day ( 3+ times in a week) & sale the same day then that’s day trading.

Great teaching video, Clay. Just starting to learn about stock trading. Not quite sure how the 3 day trades in a five-day period works. If I BUY place a trade for 100 shares on Monday; then the same amount and stock again on Tuesday; and the same amount and stock again on Wednesday, that would be three trades in three days. How does this scenario play out with respect to the five-day period? Can I place the same BUY trade amount and stock on Thursday, and Friday? Or, do I have to wait five days to do anything before the following Monday? Could I sell the 100 shares bought Monday within any of the following four days and it would not be considered a 'trade' for the Monday BUY, but for the shares bought the same day I sold them? So, does the 3-trades per day only apply if you make 3 trades in one day? Thanks in advance.
