Hey there, thanks for joining me again this week. In this weeks episode, I get out of George Town. While the videos might make it seem like I only just got there, I actually spent a month or so there before this little trip to get away. George Town is a great place, don’t get me wrong, but I was yearning for something different; to get away from the hustle and bustle. Now that I've got the much lighter 2 stroke outboard and the davits are rigged, we'll walk through raising the dinghy for the first time. Let's see how "fun" that is. Then we'll make a glorious sail south to White Cay, a completely uninhabited island, which I'll explore with with my friend, Trout. I've been asked numerous times about how I anchor, so I made it a point to record that process, which I'll go through in episode. I hope you all enjoy! Until next week, ciao.
FYI - Starting with next weeks videos, I’m going to start releasing them on Sunday mornings.

Well done! I was in George Town and anchored near your boat. I was so impressed with your set up that I took pictures as I sailed by in my dinghy. I also watched you leave George Town under sail. You did a great job with your boat. I looked for my boat in the background of your departure, but no dice. I was very glad to see your pics of your hard work on your Facebook page. You gave me some very good ideas on how to make my boat better! Great job with your shooting and editing!

Thank you so much for your kind words about the boat!!! And thank you for watching! I’m happy you found the pictures on Facebook helpful. Sailing dinghy? I’ve only seen one while in George Town, so that must mean it was you. I love sailing dinghies! If I didn’t care about needing the speed, I’d absolutely have one. I think they’re so dang cool! 🤟

Iguana git youuuu!! Good stuff, beautiful skies, water. I love sailing off the anchor, and unless I'm in a bind, thats what i do. Just start sailing : ) If conditions are good, it goes very smooth. Nice dinghy work, I have a pretty heavy fiberglass one, no davits, gotta improve my launching somehow . . . Cheers!

It ended up working out great sailing off the anchor. I’ve usually got the motor running to pull in the rode, so that I’m not putting all the work on the windlass. So I end up using the motor after the anchor is up. That day was just perfect to sail though. It felt so good to do that; made me feel like I did it how the old pirate ships did. Haha! Trout sure thought they were gonna get him!

Hey, Amy. Another great video. It's very informative and I'm learning a lot. Thanks for sharing. I've lived on the canals in my narrowboat for two years now. I was doing some boat maintenance and realised that I was taking everything slowly because there is no reason to rush whereas before I felt like I had to get everything done yesterday. Do you feel like you've slowed down when completing everyday tasks?

Thank you so much! I’m happy that there are some informational bits that are helpful to some. Hahaha! Oh yes, I’m definitely working at a far slower pace now. In fact, I do everything at a slower pace now. So I totally get it! But during hurricane season, when I’m finishing a bunch of the bigger projects, I imagine that my old work ethic will come back out, and I’ll work my butt to the bone.

Those iguanas were pretty rad, and Trout is a damn riot! I hope to meet him one day! Also…you can both piss off with your snow jokes. We just had our first 80º day yesterday and I was at work. Got an ELECTRIC Winch onboard? Let it do the heavy lifting. Nice TIP on recording the GPS when anchoring.
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures 6 ай бұрын
I’ve totally thought about that already! It’d make it even easier. I’ll bet ya that by the end of hurricane season I have a winch rigged up. 🤟 At this point I’m just ecstatic about being able to raise it (with engine still on) in less than 30 minutes. I use Anchor Pro. Some people love it, others hate it. But it’s always worked great for me. And taking the phone to the bow, I’m able to use the app to give me a really good idea of how much rode I’ve put out.

Ha ha ha ha, I ALWAYS forget to shut off my anchor alarm…lol. Great job on the dinghy davits…I am constantly tweaking mine to make it easier…cool iguanas, a bit different than the ones on Allan’s…anchored in Calabash bay on Long Island, sorry I missed White Cay it looks beautiful…another great video, and by the way, thanks for not doing any boat projects this week, lol, it gave me a bit of rest, although I did get some varnishing done, while island hopping the Keys!

Yes, entirely different than the ones in Allan’s. Their skin was so crazy cool with that metallic coloring. Omg, that anchor alarm scares the heck out of me every time I forget to shut it off. And it’s so annoying that no matter where I am, I shut the dinghy down to turn it off. I’ll bet I forget to turn it off about half the time. lol. Hahahaha! I saved the little project I have for next week. Didn’t want to jinx you. But good on you for getting some varnishing done! Especially while still island hoping! Thank you so much for watching! For the dinghy, I purposely bought a MUCH 2 stroke so that I could purposely lift it with the davits. When I had my 20 hp 4 stroke, I was having to lift it on/off the dinghy every time. It took SOOO much longer! And I was afraid that, at some point, I’d accidentally drop it in the water. It actually works pretty good now. The videos are about a month behind, so at this point I’ve got it pretty well figured out.

I'm planning on building my own ridged tender out of carbon fiber honeycomb compost. It's going to be about 12 ft. long with a 20 hp 2 stroke. I'm trying to keep it lightweight and have a fast tender at the same time. I've heard that a setup like this will sip half as much fuel as the same setup with a 15 hp 2 stroke does. That's pretty cool.

That’s awesome! It’ll be quite the project, but SOOO worth it when you’re done. I looked at OC Tenders before leaving the states. They’re carbon fiber. But they’re also VERY expensive, and I couldn’t afford it. Building one like you are would be the way to go. Good luck! I’d love to see pictures and video when you’re done with it.
