I think that the white family needs to reign in those girls. They are spoiled and disrespectful. I think the black family needs to focus on all their kids not just cashflow. It kinda sucks hope the others are ignored. In both cases I thought the dads were asses. In the white family Octavia was not there to be their maid! He could have spent a little more time getting to know her instead of ordering her around. In the black family I thought that was so rude when they took her to that park or whatever and told her to wait and left her standing there forever. It didn't even have to do with her being the only white person! That would be uncomfortable for anyone to be in an unfamiliar situation and left standing alone while they all went about their business. Both mom need to teach their husbands some damn manners.

I grew up in mostly white areas and I think I missed out on things. When we moved to Arkansas I prayed to be black every night because the little girls in my class could grow their hair long over night. I didn’t know about fake hair and thought black girls could just magically grow their hair. 🤦🏻♀️ There are still things I learn as an adult that I wasn’t exposed to which is so fun! I live by Texas A&M so there is a lot of international students and families. I worked at the children center and LOVED having such a diverse class and the parents were so excited I wanted to include their culture, holidays, music, language, etc. The parents always had their kids show off how many songs they could sing in other languages. A 3 year old singing and using sign language in other languages is so cute. They are so proud!

Octavia is a class act! I hope her son cash-flow is taking good care of her and the rest of his family now that his career took off. Would love to know how her other children are doing. His 2 bros and his little sister were adorable! I saw a comment dissing the white woman for being afraid to go get coffee in Harlem. Would love to know who wrote the comment and whether they’ve been there. I lived in Spanish Harlem in the mid 90s and I remember going to an outdoor event in Harlem. I was with a bunch of African friends who totally chewed me out because I walked off to get a drink at a convenience store without telling anyone. There are parts of Harlem (and other neighborhoods in NYC) where it’s unsafe for anyone, regardless of what color they are. As for the fact that she didn’t know who Malcolm X was, that was a bit of a shock, but I’m not even sure they teach that in a typical high school history class and her crowd isn’t likely to go see a Spike Lee movie…. I hope she followed through with her plan to educate herself and her family.

It is really interesting to see how other white people feel around black people. It really opens my eyes. I grew up in a small country town with a healthy mixture of white and black the minority being spanish. I never felt out of place in a group of black people just because I was white. I have worked in an establishment with mostly black people and I remember coming to the realization I was the only white person after months of being there. It was never something I immediately thought about or had insecurities about. Seeing it from someone else's perspective makes me realize more about why there is such a divide. I never understood before but when you make it known that just being around black people intimidates you, scares you, or makes you uncomfortable I can now understand why some black people feel the way they do about white people.
