not generally an Eastern background...My ex in India comes from an area highly status conscious and material brands are important... I have lost connection with my Japanese friends so it's been15 years since I had a lot of awareness. I know I always wanted a Japanese boyfriend, and I had two in high school. But in college, I went on a couple dates with a different Japanese dude, a cancer researcher in San Diego (also called Nakamura, funny enough) and he was kinda mean about money, asserting himself as a better person because he had more affluence? Some guys are just jerks, so I dont think it has anything to do with race. Plus, Asians have high respect for their elders, and the son's wife is supposed to take over the whole family duties for Nana. Maybe Nana has some control issues of her own, and thats why she was still doing everything. No doubt there is a culture clash on that issue, but miss whitie should KNOW that isnt okay since she says she is so culturally aware. Plus then she goes over and make the black kids listen to country music? Does any black people listen to country? Ive never seen that happen... those lyrics half the time dont apply.

While I do agree Tammy was taking advantage of her in most Asian cultures the MIL does a lot of the house work etc. They keep taking care of their children even after they marry. If my mom didn't live hundreds of miles away she would still be coming over on a regular basis to clean my house and I'm in my 30s; to me it's annoying but I can't tell her no cause she won't hear it.

Nana Nakamura is the most incredible person in this whole show. What a beautiful soul. And Mela is right there with her, only falling behind in life experience due to the decades between them. I have to believe they’ve kept their friendship alive. And I hope Tammy and Mela’s children have learned to take less for granted in their lives.

Mela was only 29 here. She carries herself with such mature-ness that makes her seem older than she is. She’s, by far, one of my favorite trading spouses wives. (I hope she’s doing well. ❤️)

Whoah!!! I'm surprised no one mentioned the very end when all of Tammy's wickedness came out!! Talking about how she was glad Nana got the money because she'd be paying less tax money out of it then if they would of received it. Basically saying they were gonna get the money from her anyway, now with less taxes. So totally sickening!!!

@The Economic Prophets I think she'd be a lot more upset about the Nana thing if she was a debtor and the dad too. The dad actually seemed really happy that his mother got all the money.

I grew up with a neighbor who Nana reminds me of so much. I don't know if it's the Japanese culture or they're just amazing women but my neighbor is the sweetest, most self-less,generous person I've ever met. She would drop everything to help someone in need and was always doing things for other people. My mother was alot like Tammy, very self centered, and self absorbed, acting one way to the outside but totally different at home (in a bad way) and my neighbor set a good example for me and was a comfort that without her living next to us that's would have never had.
