Out of all of the research, this is probably the easiest/cheapest solution for a DIY animation peg bar. A wooden ruler with 3 holes, some wooden dowels and glue.

Thank you for this perfecty made video. Just made the pegbar but didn't find a wooden ruler so melted with a hot nail (in the gas flameand head down) the holes. The wooden plugs stayed in, glued by the hot plastic. Only a pitty to have not much drawing space left on the A4 with the holes in it.

You are a god send. Do the dowels fit exactly into the paper holes or does the paper have room to move about? Either way I'll probably try this out. Thanks for the video.
@melodywayfare4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The 6mm dowels fit perfectly because the paper holes' diameters were exactly 6mm. Sizes may vary for different hole punchers so I needed to double-check that before buying the dowels :)

Hi, this is a brilliant video - I learned so much. Can I ask what is the model number of the multi page scanner that you use? I'm having trouble trying to find a reasonably priced one on Amazon.
@melodywayfare4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That's HP OfficeJet 3831 All-in-One Printer. That was on Amazon for £54.89 two years ago. I really like HP instant ink subscription too; they ship ink to you whenever you run out.

@@melodywayfare Thanks so much for the helpful reply! I will have a look for that printer online. I have just one more question if that's okay? Am I right in saying that you use After Effects to track the holes in the paper in order to stabilizes the images? Can I ask how long does it take approximately for the tracking/stabilization process to complete? I ask because currently I have to take photos of each sheet of animation paper manually and then import the photos into animation software(Opentoonz or TVPaint) in order to create an image sequence. It's a really tedious process so I'm curious if your way is more convenient and faster. Please let me know how long the stabilization process takes! Kind regards
@melodywayfare4 жыл бұрын
@@Brenners2010 I was exactly trying to avoid taking pictures of each frame manually. The longer your shot is, the more time this feeding tray scanner + AE stabalizing set up saves you. The film test in this video has around a hundred frames. It takes no time to hit the scan button. Then it was around a 10-minute wait. The tracking job is pretty straight forward since the dots are mostly in a similar place already. Maybe it takes 5 minutes to set up track and stabalize in AE, but once you have it ready, you can simply rerun it next time and just watch AE does its thing. But the feeding tray scanner might smudge your drawing. Pencil / color pencil drawings were completely fine. Charcoal / pastel weren't and I had to spray fixative all over each frame. That could be a bulk process if you lay them all on the floor, still it took me around 15 minutes and then a long wait for the spray to dry up. So in this case taking pictures of each frame has more flexibility. Another thing to note is that after scanning, your pile of drawings will end up in reverse. But I just kept it that way coz AE could reverse frames anyway. Also the next time you scan them they will be back in order. :)

Heya! It's for aligning the animation paper, tha'ts all it does. It's not 100% necessary, like if you draw animation on a flipbook you won't need one!

maybe everyone is going about this all wrong! instead of making all this stuff just to punch a freaking hole! why not reinvent the wheel and create a new a easier solution to this problem by simple making your own from scratch with materials that already exist? like all you really need to hold the paper still right? so why not make just 2 holes and make a wooden stick maybe with a ruler and then punch to holes in it and then make the two peg bars for it? you don't need to make it exactly the traditional way so long as it those the job!
