Greetings Gerry and welcome to VOGTLAND OUTDOORS ! Being my mother was a full-blooded "Allen" born of Welsh and Irish blood, I like you already ;-) Your first experience using this oh-so-simple method? MUSIC TO MY EARS ! That you also enjoy TRAP SHOOTING (as do I)? MORE MUSIC TO MY EARS... but a DAMNED EXPENSIVE HOBBY, yes? One of my most-prized possessions is a KAHN 12ga over-under trap shotgun; paid more for it than I can post here (my wife reads all of this, and if she knew, she'd slay me), but the REALITY of both TRAP SHOOTING (which I enjoy) and shooting SPORTING CLAYS (which I ADORE!) is that it's DAMNED EXPENSIVE - here in the USA even using PUBLIC land to shoot on, so your (cheap) "target loads" run about $50 a box (about $1 USD per shell); IMAGINE if you had to pay $1 for EVERY ARROW you shot ! TELL ME MORE about the DISTANCES at which you're shooting, and your bow's DRAW WEIGHT. In the meantime, watch some of the shorter (newer?) videos in this playlist: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZKTYqCllq6jbcU kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqrGhIB4nKyHrqc kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5_GgK2Aa7B2atU kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZCzlIWFhJiDmsk Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

Hi Mark my bow is a win_win barebow 30 pound draw weight. I needed information and proper guidance and not information overload!! So you're videos were perfect. But I did cheat on you with a jaķe kaminski video where he set his crawl marks by turning a target face backwards and putting a line of electric tape across it and walked backwards 10 15 20 25 30 .I did this on Saturday with my glove and now these glove distances are in my head Biggish thing I got from you is a true beginner can shoot quite accurate which is very positive Thanks mark
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerry, First off - I LIKE JAKE ! I MEAN that. So... you "cheated" on me? HA ! WHAT IF I TOLD YOU that last-last year - when my channel was just getting started - I also saw that Jake had announced he was SWITCHING TO SHOOTING BAREBOW, and then he & his wife had videos of them trying to figure out how to hit 50m targets, and were falling short... ... so I COMMENTED on that video, suggested that if they BOTH began anchoring UNDER their chins (not ALONGSIDE their cheeks), they would immediately GAIN DISTANCE while ALSO gaining ACCURACY. I'd HOPED that I'd get some comments from Jake & Mrs Jake on MY channel, on ANY of my videos, but I was disappointed as days turned into weeks turned into months with no contact :-| ... Then as I recently (this year) began watching some of Jake's newer videos (I AM a long-time subscriber to HIS channel), what do I notice but Jake's ANCHOR has begun DROPPING LOWER and LOWER - until for all intents & purposes it's UNDER his chin :-O NOT KIDDING - go watch Jake's videos starting (say) 5 YEARS ago, and then compare his anchor to THIS year - you'll see the same thing ! JAKE VIDEO 2009: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIbcnXxur72AfJI TIME STAMP 0:08 - Jake is using "textbook" Olympic Archery anchor-UNDER-the-chin form :-) JAKE VIDEO 2020: Jake switches to BAREBOW, and is (still) exploring anchor positions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eajEmGyphtV5qJo TIME STAMP 6:34 - Jake's anchor is now clearly ALONG his cheek (but already dropping), and above his chin by a full 1 1/2 fingers (which means he's ADDING error while LOSING range) - interesting ! NOW IT GETS INTERESTING... JAKE VIDEO 2022: (about 5 months ago, so SUMMER 2022): Jake's Barebow continues to evolve kzbin.info/www/bejne/fquwdYNmaLh8nLM TIME STAMP 7: 13 - LOOK at Jake's CURRENT Barebow anchor position ! UNDER THE CHIN !!! SO WHAT AM I SAYING? At the very least - I'M in GOOD COMPANY ;-), because one of the best shooters in the world - and certainly among the best INSTRUCTORS and one of KZbin most important "Archery Personalities" has clearly tried NUMEROUS methods, has no doubt intelligently evaluated each of them, and is now (currently) anchoring in a manner completely in agreement with the VOGTLAND SHOOTING METHOD :-) Now if I can just get him to start STRING WALKING using MY technique (instead of ducktape-on-the-back-of-the-target), I will be pleased beyond words, because JUST IMAGINE someone as ALREADY skilled, capable and oh-so-cool-when-he-shoots like JAKE KAMINSKI finds his barebow evolving toward even using my (simplest-of-all) stringwalking method - IMAGINE him plugging 3 for 3 in the GOLD at 50m over & over & over again, then with a simple half-finger slide up his bowstring he's nailing 3 for 3 at 70m like it was nothing, THEN with another half-finger slide up the bowstring he's burying 3 for 3 arrows in the heart of a target at 90m :-O I can't wait to see THAT ! Jake is my guy, because after watching him for YEARS now he's taught me and so many other archers out there to TRUST YOUR OWN JUDGMENT, DON'T shoot one way just because you're TOLD it works, but because you've PROVEN to YOURSELF it works for YOU, and it's something ISN'T working for you, CHANGE IT. I really admire that about him :-) ... So now YOU'RE in good company too - just lay off using that damned duct tape ;-) Go watch THESE videos on STRINGWALKING MADE SIMPLE: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6bGiWugbNt_j5o kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqrGhIB4nKyHrqc

Hi Shawn! This is a MARTIN JAGUAR recurve bow, and possesses (sort-of) "ILF-COMPATIBLE" limb pockets :-O MORE importantly, the WEIGHTING of the riser is such that it is a JOY to shoot. IF you get a chance to pick one up (used, as they're discontinued I think) BUY IT ! I own TWO Martin Jaguars (green camo and blue camo) and love 'em. I DESPISE the bolt-on limbs that Martin made for this bows - they were CRAP. Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

Cool method! I see you only have one string nock and do you ever have a problem with the arrow sliding down a bit when you come to full draw? Would two nocks one under and one top work as well ? Thanks for sharing your skills!

Greetings Steve and welcome to VOGTLAND OUTDOORS ! SHORT ANSWER: Most all of my bows have either 12-strand or 14-strand bowstrings; using a standard field arrow nock, I rarely have an arrow "drop" off the bowstring (like once a summer?) - it usually means the nock has gotten a little wide, so all you have to do is BITE it closed just a wee bit and you're fine :-) Regarding nocking points, I actually use a MOVEABLE nocking point that I'm pretty sure I invented - from SPEED BUTTONS :-O - check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/en7Hq2WtgZd_g6c Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

Is string walking ok with a 66" bow? Great video. Great explanation of the method. Cheers from the Uk. T
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
Greetings Tom in the UK ! SHORT ANSWER? The LONGER the bow the BETTER stringwalking is on that bow - WHO KNEW??? Let me explain WHY... Stringwalking MOVES the "DRAWING POINT" - essentially the location of your INDEX FINGER on the bowstring. The difference between the (fixed) NOCKING POINT of the arrow and the DRAWING POINT of your index finger is what others term "The Crawl" - which I think is a silly non-self-describing term. I term this gap precisely what it IS - a "Stringwalking Gap" - simple as this. So why am I bringing this "Stringwalking Gap" up at all? Let's continue... Most bows - recurve bows, long bows, asian bows - are all designed for the index finger to be placed DIRECTLY ON TOP OF the arrow or DIRECTLY BELOW the arrow, but in either case you're TOUCHING the arrow. ANY movement of the index finger AWAY from these "DESIGNED" gaps represents a VARIANCE from "OPTIMAL". So now the question becomes this: HOW MUCH "VARIANCE" does STRINGWALKING represent? Well, it turns out this Variance is measured with respect to the LENGTH OF THE BOWSTRING (ie the BOW) :-O. Let's pick the LARGEST POSSIBLE Stringwalking Gap you can shoot - about "4 fingers" UNDER the arrow. On a 40# bow, which is a 10m or even a 5m shot - quite short. IF you measure your 4 fingers with a tape, you'll see it's almost exactly 3 inches. Let's take your 66" bow - how does a big gap of 4 fingers (3 inches) compare to 66 inches? HERE'S ONE WAY TO CALCULATE A "VARIANCE": - With one-finger-under, the "Stringwalking Gap" is officially 0 (zero) - there's NO gap; This means a Variance of 0 inches / 66 inches = 0% NOW... - With a 4-finger (3 inches) we have a Variance of 3 inches/66 inches = just over 4% - NOT MUCH. TO PUT THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE, if you're 6 ft tall then you almost certainly have a Draw Length LONGER than the "standard" 28 inches - in fact it's likely 31 inches. THIS is a Variance of 3/28 = almost 11% :-O READY FOR THE SURPRISE? On a 66 inch bow, the LARGEST STRINGWALKING GAP POSSIBLE creates only a 4% variance from DESIGN, while on that same 66 inch bow a 6ft person shooting it creates an 11% variance from DESIGN :-O ! PUNCHLINE: On a bow YOUR size, STRINGWALKING is in fact SAFER for it than shooting it if you're 6 ft tall :-O !!! NOT MANY PEOPLE BOTHER TO ANALYZE ALL THE DOGMA OUT THERE LIKE THIS... But MARK DOES. And so MARK can separate the TRUTH from the DOGMA - I think they call it "bollocks" in the UK ;-) Hope you find this useful ! -Mark

Regarding the safety of having a 31" draw, most limbs are designed to be drawn up to around 33-35" depending on the manufacturers. They are just weighed at 28" so that there is a defined standard. String walking is fine on a 66" bow though.

How far would it shoot three fingers above the arrow? Can you do a distance test?
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS 2 жыл бұрын
Greetings Bubs ! EASY ANSWER: IT DEPENDS on the DRAW WEIGHT (you KNEW I was going to say that)..> ... but JUST TODAY I was shooting 3 fingers ABOVE THE ARROW with a 45# recurve bow, and ALL my shots were landing at 90m +/- only about 1m fore/aft and left/right; it was a VERY WINDY day (30mph cross winds across a 90m shot), and once in a while a big gust would come up and push me left even 2m, but I was ALREADY aiming at the RIGHT edge, so the 2m left meant I missed the 90m target - but only by about 6 inches left, and the DISTANCE was REMARKABLY SPOT-ON considering the CROSS WIND :-O WHEN I SHOOT MY 55# RECUREVE BOW I GET THE FOLLOWING PERFORMANCE: 1 finger above the arrow (classic "Mediterranean" grip): 90m easily and repeatably 2 fingers above the arrow: 100m easily & repeatably 3 fingers above the arrow: slightly uncomfortable at 55#; 110m easily & repeatably Go try it. Prepare to be impressed with yourself. You're in for a surprise ;-) NOTE: HERE'S HOW WIND TYPICALLY INFLUENCES ARROW SHOTS: 1. wind COMING AT YOU FROM the target: you'll GAIN about 5m on a 90m shot; 2. wind PUSHING FROM BEHIND YOUR AT the target; you'll LOSE about 10m on a 90m shot; 3. wind CROSSING at a PERFECT 90deg angle to the arrow flight? a. It NEVER actually HAPPENS, there is ALWAYS at least some LITTLE HEAD or TAIL WIND b. You will neither GAIN nor LOSE distance, but you WILL have to compensate for LATERAL DRIFT Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

A head wind slows your arrow down, you will see a drop, not gain in elevation, and a tailwind will cause a gain in elevation, not a drop. And the amount varies with the speed of the wind, the speed of your bow, and your arrow build. There are no prescribed amounts for it (you could estimate it if you know the speed of your bow, drag coefficient of your arrow, and the speed and direction of the wind) Source: I've been shooting 90m+ in tournaments for 10 years

Greetings Leon ! You'll literally be SEEING me use this very method in the upcoming STATE and NATIONAL Men's Barebow (Masters 50+ Division) Competition in early February ! Speaking personally, a key frustration & struggle I face is the coinciding of my decision to start this CHANNEL with the very point in my shooting when I first developed TARGET PANIC - this SUCKS ! But I'm persevering, and so far the vast vast majority of my subscribers see past the "flinching" that I'm struggling with, and see the indisputable merits of the technique itself :-) I hope to hear back from you with questions - typically about what-do-I-mean-about-anchoring-UNDER-the-chin - that is the MOST common are of confusion as archers make this crucial adjustment.
