Many years ago, a friend of mine who could play (to a degree at least) offered to teach me circular breathing. He recommended that I go to a certain long footpath tunnel in the town where I lived and spend the entire night just trying and trying and trying. He also recommended that something like mushrooms (the hallucinogenic kind) might help. I had already experienced mushrooms, but in the end I never got around to borrowing his didgeridoo and trying. One of the things he said at the time, and I suspect this applies to many things in life, is that you never know when you will suddenly become able to do it (circular breathing), but that in the moment you become able, you have it for life.... you will never forget how to do it. Perhaps that was his experience. Whether it would have been mine, I can not say, but your post reminded me of that time, many years ago.

The fact that music like this was created over a thousand years ago by tribes completely isolated from the rest of the world, and yet it sounds so much like modern western dubstep / hardbass music is amazing. It just shows how strikingly similar yet strikingly different people and cultures are from one another. EDIT: I made this comment 3 years ago and I still don't understand why people think it's impossible for two different cultures to converge on a similar musical idea. I can't find any evidence that hardbass or dubstep music took influence from Australian aboriginal digeridoo music, it seems more likely that it was just a natural evolution from UK house electronic dance music that features intense bass melodies. Coincidences happen all the time between unrelated cultures, for example false cognates in languages are surprisingly common.

Kevin Olschesky if you think Australian lineage stops as convict lineage you don’t know much about Australia. Australia has the oldest natural landscapes on the planet, the oldest rainforest on the planet (Daintree), it has the oldest surviving traditional culture (aboriginals), we are one of the most diverse in plants and animals in the world with many endemic to our nation. Tell me elsewhere where you experience many different species of animals in a day that are all unique to your own nation. Naturally speaking, Australian history is unlike anything else. We are the richest country in natural history, it is a shame the traditional custodians were raped and pillaged by colonialism. But the younger generations are learning to change that (finally).
@eithnemelee2997
@eithnemelee2997 2 жыл бұрын
Here is how ancient Australian Aboriginal culture is - they have legends that speak of islands off the shores of their homelands that are not visible today. For much time westerners considered this to mean that these were mythical islands. But later, an oceanography survey chose to use sonar to check these areas mentioned in the legends. There are mounds underwater in these places that would have been exposed islands when sea levels were lower around 10,000 years ago. So using science it has been shown that Aboriginal oral tradition is at very least 10,000 years old. So amazing.

I have Aussie blood running in my veins but I am stuck a standard American. (that's okay, too). Theres something so soothing yet rousing about the didg's sound.

Supposedly an animal knocked out a man using infrasound wherein the man said he was looking at the animal, and it seemed to push out and vibrate its bottom lip, and just before passing out the man heard a sound similar to an Australian Didgeridoo. That story brought me here. Wow!!

I began listening to, dancing and meditating on Didgeridoo ever since I found out the its sound vibrates with our Root Chakra. Root chakra being the earth element, it completely makes sense how Didgeridoo originates in Australia. Australia is the country with the strongest earth element. I have travelled to Australia and I have to say it marked the inception of my true spiritual journey. In a way Australia ‘initiated’ me. Much gratitude to Australia from India. 🙏
