As a boy in the latter 60's I remember after Mass men saying about the changes, "If it ain't broke why fix it?" The reforms were unnecessary, they rather destroyed. Today we truly need a reform and that would be to undo the reforms.

@𝔍𝔬𝔥𝔫 ☦︎ Not all of us. While it is intriguing to many, to others it is just as foreign as the post Vatican II Mass was to people of the 1960's as they had never know it for their entire lives. Most young Catholics do not cite aesthetics as the main reason for being driven or drawn back to the Church to begin with. It is the moral failings of the institution on things like rampant and unaccounted sexual abuse of children, and the misuse of funds and resources to fight state protected issues rather than Catholic social justice issues.

From what I know this Second Confiteor is not written in Missale Romanum; instead it appears in 1961 Rituale Romanum since Communion of the Faithful belonged to an independent part after the Mass until some more recent centuries, and so this was retained in the Rituale Romanum. Hope anyone who is more knowledgeable correct me.

I actually went to a Traditional Latin Mass for the first time in my life last Sunday and I loved it! Words cannot explain what it felt like to me. I frequently attend Latin mass. I might even say I attend it at least twice a week if I'm lucky, and I attend low and sung (high mass). I can tell you that it is NOT the same mass as Novus Ordo. They changed a lot of the prayers, especially the Confiteor (What is this "I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters" nonsense? The mass is about God, first and foremost!), Kyrie is no longer said in the ninefold way (six repetitions of Kyrie, three of Christe), the Canon of the mass is the same though some things were omitted or changed.. The presence is real, but badly catechised Novus Ordites don't fully understand the real presence, some as bad as they would walk off with the consecrated host in their hand.

2ndRatePetronius 2ndRatePetronius You are completely right. I’m a traditional Roman Catholic, also known as a Tridentine. I believe Our Lady of La Salette, 1879 (?), who said the Catholic Church would be eclipse. I’m called a “radicle” by many people in the city where I live who go to the Novus Ordo because I go to a traditional Roman Catholic Church that never went with the changes and the Mass is only done in pre 1956 rubrics. (I’m also a Sedevacantist because these men in Rome who are called “Popes” are heretical in what they teach and do, which no real, or true, Pope would ever do.) God bless you!

aldrick barber I’ve heard a couple of stories from people who are in FB group I’m in who still go to the Novus Ordo Church (but I’m thinking the groups name is Catholics Against Modernism) and they posted how they found a Eucharistic host on the ground outside the church as they were leaving. One of these 2 people (who are in different towns or cities) took the host back into the church and gave it to the priest. I’m not sure if the Eucharist host was actually consecrated because of the changes in the Church, but just in case I’m glad the person gave it a priest. Heartbreaking that these thing’s happen, and they happen A LOT more than I can imagine. 😢

It is the Church joining Christ in His presentation of His One True Sacrifice to the Father, a presentation which He presents to the Father for all eternity, the one and only sacrifice which is sufficient for our salvation. @nasticanasta Rituals certainly were in the upper room. It was a Passover meal - which is a very formalized ritual with particular persons taking particular roles. As far as the "purple" robes, purple is only used for very limited times during the year, so why do you keep focusing on purple? The ceremonies and items used for them are an expression of the royal dignity of Christ. That is why we use them. We always knew that is not what it was like in the upper room.

Jesus made no attempt to soften what he said, no attempt to correct "misunderstandings," for there were none. His listeners understood Him alright. They didn't think he was speaking metaphorically. If so, if they mistook what he said, why no correction? On other occasions when there was confusion, He explained just what he meant (cf. Matt. 16:5-12). Here, where any misunderstanding would be fatal, there was no effort by Him to correct. Instead, he repeated himself for emphasis.

@nasticanasta So, you admit that there ARE scriptures which directly contradict what you are arguing AND that YOU ignore them because it doesn't fit your belief. Catholics absolutely believe that we are justified by faith, therefore, we accept all of these verses. We also accept those verses you reject because we actually believe everything that scripture teaches. We understand that it cannot contradict itself. Scripture says we are justified by grace through both faith and works.
