Hi Greg, I’m so happy to have found your channel! Your reviews are unlike the more performative type, you go in search of honest-to-goodness, and you’re very detailed and balanced in your views. I love how your wife speaks Teochew, so authentic and sounds like my parents 😊

Hi Greg, TQ for the post, I love it when your wife appears. Pity she's so busy. I think I missed this porridge stall cos I'm there usually too early. I actually patronised the other 2 porridge stalls which r opened really early like 6 plus am. They r located on both storeys. Both r on the extreme end near the curry chicken noodles. I think i may like their dishes better from what I see here. Teo Heng too old school for me lah tho their pomfret looks yummy. If u have a chance try the other 2 stalls. The 2nd storey one run by an old lady with white hair. She's a 1-woman show. When she has her pek tor herh, it's filled with egg. I love her spicy sharkmeat n her fried egg n cai poh omelette. The stall downstairs is run by a middle aged man. He has a lady server. Their steamed sotong is the bomb! They r filled with egg, n super tender. I love their sharkmeat which is the braised version. Their vegetables all stir fried with garlic n not oily. Their caipoh omelette also gd. If u like shark meat, these 2 stalls versions r v fresh, no pong.🤗🥳

Lemme know when u try the other 2 stalls. I'd love to hear your opinion. Btw I love your kids. They r so precocious. Your daughter is v pretty, your son v charming, but u brought them up well. They grow so fast. 😁

I am a Teochew, but I often eat my Teochew porridge with salted egg, Kam chye, fried luncheon meat, and Lor Stuff.. like Lor Meat, Lor Tau Pok, Tau Key. I rarely order fish as I dislike tackling with bones, plus it's often very expensive. Some times I like it with steamed peanuts.

Back many years ago like maybe 2006? In CBD, China Square Food Center, there is a Teochew porridge buffet during lunch time for S$6. I tried it and they serve it with sweet potato porridge, braised duck, luncheon meat, fish cakes, salted veg, and others. It's was a good deal you can eat as many bowls as you want, of cos expensive items are not present. Sadly the stall or restaurant closed down already. I wonder if Singapore still have any Teochew porridge buffet?

Yum, love that classic teochew rabbit fish, I've always known it as pek toh hur (white belly fish), I can easily polish off a few just on my own 🤤 thanks for the video, I live in the UK and miss all the hawker food so much 😋

The soup of the porridge is helpful in diarrhea and easy to absorb by body when we are sick. And like your wife said its helpful when we have diarrhea or food poisoning but at the same time help people with constipation too. Help with gut health too.

Awesome, I must go try especially the kiam chye fish. You can go try the fish cake at Cheng San market porridge stall in AMK, top seller everyday. Got lard n pork in it, love watching a elderly lady making it at the stall next to it.

Awwwww. Another legend gone with the wind. Thought he came out of retirement. But my fren said he's of poor health so mayb cldnt tahan. I thought at least his daughter wld carry on. When she helms the stall, I find her preparation not bad leh. Haven't tried the son's yet.

no, the ahm is not healthy. it's been known to cause a lot of gastric issues. by ethnicity, the teochew group in singapore has a higher incidence rate of stomach cancer compared to the rest of the dialect groups as well as the other races. i can't quote the exact journal, but i did read it before.
@nghonpo7348 Жыл бұрын
Interesting observation. Among the dialect group, I think Teochew have the most dipping sauce….. salty process food. Not going to do any benefit for our body.

@@PS-383 fish is fishy and alot of food is garlicky and lack the refined taste of palates. Cantonese have mastered the art of good chinese cuisine. Im not cantonese but am so impressed w how they cook. Thats the reason why most of the big cbinese restaurant chains in sg (Paradise, Imperial Treasure, Crystal Jade, Jumbo, Tung Lok etc...) all are cantonese
@mindtwister19842 жыл бұрын
@@chimmichua1986 Teochews are good for their braising, steam fish, hee kiaw, fishball and fish cakes, hae chor (prawn roll) and wide assortment of dishes to go with porridge. While Cantonese does a great job on roasting, soups, tim sums and their gooey porridge. I enjoy all Chinese dialect food in their own variations and interpretations. It is great that Singapore has many dialect groups in just one little city state.
