Been really enjoying your videos. Will take issue with one thing here. Surely, shooting above league average on a massive volume of very long 3's, is actually a really encouraging sign. I don't really buy the idea that he's shooting from there because he can't take 2 steps forward without getting his shot blocked . He shoots from there to force the defence to step up to him on every possession. Also, shooting 35% from 3, in his rookie and college season, at high volume, is great. It'd be great even if he wasn't jacking up half of those shots from 30 feet. But considering that the half of those shots are very deep 3's, I don't see how you could infer that he's not a good shooter from those numbers. He's taking 6 attempts per game as the primary scorer on a bad team. He's not shooting 35% on 1.2 corner shots. He only needs to improve a tiny amount in terms of accuracy and shot selection and he could be an absolute nightmare. I'm worried that he'll never be effective going to the basket. I'm worried he'll always be a liability on defence. But the shooting concerns seem overblown at this point.

It seems like he went into the video wanting to make the point that Trae's size was an issue, and twisted a lot of supporting evidence to do so. For example, he makes the claim that Trae's inconsistent passing and deep 3s are a result of him being undersized, but does not give any evidence to back those claims up.

If there is anything consistent its that Trae is going to be a deep threat shooter in the next decade given more time to hone in on his very elite shooting talent. And he is using it to try force defenders to get to him and at the same time create more spacing. Currently John Collins is looking to be the future benefactor as he is already pretty good finishing off lobs, attacking the rim and improving his jumpshot. We'll have to wait and see if Trae gets more star quality teammates to work off his spacing and gravity.
@brendankane41865 жыл бұрын
What he's trying to say is that he's only shooting a little above league average from that deep, when it would only take a second to take a single dribble in for a better more efficient shot. They aren't actual concerns for his shooting, but his basketball IQ and taking more intelligent shots

spandexmarker 97 Here's the thing A. Both teams won the trade, both teams are happy so I don't think theirs a winner or loser to this trade. B. Point guard vs Small Forward, SF has a significant higher impact in general on defense then a point guard. Obviously their are some outliers but you are more likely to have an impact defensively at SF then PG. Thus Luka Doncics bad defense is much more impactful negatively then Trae Youngs as you don't really need your point guard to be a great defender. All in all Trae will wind up being a GREAT 2nd or 3rd piece to a championship, AND his passing and unselfish play make it to where he can thrive along side a star wing player. This, in my opinion, is the hidden gem of Trae. His poetintial to thrive with other stars is higher then anyone else. Hes so good from 3 even when shooting 28% teams still guarded him all the way out to like 28 feet...any play fits with trae while I don't think any player fits with Luka

When can a 6'2 guard (or shorter guard) carry a team to NBA championship? 6'2 height is a limitation. Iversion couldn't win a championship.. Steph Curry can't win it without KD and Klay.. Lillard and McCollon continue to struggle in playoffs... the history has proven and shown that shorter players (under 6'6) are generally a facilitating piece to a team. Come in playoff time when teams start to double team your superstar player, you see efficiency and performance goes down the drain. ie. Kyrie Irving (6'3 guard).. Chris Paul (6'0)... subpar playoff performance. Irving is a prime example of an elite shorter guard who excels playing with another superstar (ie. LeBron) when he is not the defense's main focus. Once Irving is the target of double-team defense with the Celtics, you see his performance went downhill against the Bucks. Irving is simply too short to beat multiple big defenders. Then let's look at superstars who can win championships.. LeBron (6'8), Jordan (6'6), Kobe (6'7), Kawhi (6'7).. the list goes on and on. Height does matter a great deal. Trae Yong won't win any championship if he is the only superstar on the team. He can fill the stats in the regular season, but don't expect him to be like LeBron, Kawhi, Kobe, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird... etc.

Ryan Jones You’re out of your mind if you took my comment as me making a gameplay/style comparison. The subject of this video was “Does size limit Trae’s ceiling”. My point was that Alen Iverson made it as a 5’11” slasher who primarily scored his points by attacking the rim. He also played in an era where big men dominated the league, so he took abuse every night and still found success. When I said “Trae will be fine”, I was once again speaking on par with this video. Not sure if you watched it, but the video highlighted Trae‘a skill set. Trae is 6’1” and he is a sniper. He is also playing in an era where 3pt shooting and ball handling are the most coveted skills in the league. So not only is Trae “taller” than AI, but he also plays in an era that benefits his style of play. Hence, Trae will be fine. Idk where you got this impression on me comparing Trae and Iverson’s style of play, but ok.
