The conflation of size with vision is one of the most stubborn (and stupid) in the NBA.
@aja3longhorn3755 жыл бұрын
@@NotOneToFly Not really. When you think about the most elite passing visions of all time, the three names that come to mind are Magic, Lebron, and Larry Bird. All players above 6'7. Of course there are small guards who had amazing vision (Nash, Kidd, Isiah) but a lot of their talent was on fast break and interior passing situations out of pick and roll. For half court swing passing situations height is definitely an advantage.
@NotOneToFly5 жыл бұрын
@@aja3longhorn375 I still contend that this is a conflation of vision and being able to make a given pass. Height has an advantage on longer passes and passes over the defense while short players have advantages with pass weight and passes under the defense. Size as a variable should be viewed as independent from passing but not from overall value.
@rossjn98855 жыл бұрын
What you should mention is the impact of his swag. The level of confidence that he displays in his game and shooting ability is that of NBA greats. His recent rash of great games is indicative of just how far his confidence can propel him. Young has Stephen Curry confidence and his shot with Steve Nash confidence in his ability to make plays with the pass.

People laughing at Trae-Luka trade early this season are failed to see the big picture. It's what Hawks want by design. See, the organization is running a new project, that is to become The Warriors of the East. That's why there are plenty of ex-Warriors in the organization right now, down to their head physio. That's also the reason why they want Trae over Luka. Say what you want about Luka, and rightly so, as Luka is exceeding expectation so far, but so is Trae! At the end of the day, Luka is a piece of the puzzle that deemed not fit to Hawks picture. Meanwhile, in their eyes, Trae is.
@nickbakernzl5 жыл бұрын
Very true, they're both doing amazing, but Trae just fits the hawks vision more than Luka, even if he turns out to deliver lesser numbers than Luka (although i think they will both have amazing careers in the NBA and probably be all stars for years to come, plus being very even when comparing the two). But he clearly works under the hawks system, more than Luka would. I'd say the trade was a win win for the hawks and the mavericks!

So far luka has been the better player in 2018 and 2019. There are still 20 games left for luka and 19 for trae in 2019 so trae have a chance to have better stats in 2019. Good video Ringer. Loved the part about his awareness of everyone trying to block him. Awesome way to draw defense n create dimes. Great player but I wish he proved NBA wrong about short guys on defence like Luka has proved that athleticism and length isn't everything. Trae could be great on defense. His speed and agility should make him good on the ball like you said, could pick pockets like John Stockton and easily shake n bake around those screens. Plus his endurance as a smaller guy means he could play hard both ends of the court. Chris Paul could teach him a thing or two. I saw him defend well against Ben Simmons! But I agree with you he deserves an A. Props to Hawks ball movement and John Collins too.

So fascinating to come back to these analysis and see what was right and what was wrong. Trae is a great on ball creator, but i don't think he's gotten meaningfully better since his rookie season. He's a slightly better defender, slightly more efficient shooter, but he doesn't do anything off ball and he's still turnover prone.

Can we see a 'The Leap' video on a rookie sensation that is quietly going under many peoples radar, Mitchell Robinson. He is a great defender, with his size, build, and legenth he has potential to be even better. I don't see him ever being a volume scorer, but l do see a role similar to Whieside and DJ. He has "IT" and it's as scary as a Stephen King novel. The same IT you give Ayton and Wiggins trouble for. High motor, scrapy, athletic bigman.
