[Traffic Cam] Seattle FD battles bar blaze in Crown Hill

On April 2nd, 2022, I captured footage of Seattle Fire responding to a derelict bar fire in north Seattle's Crown Hill neighborhood. The fire was contained to one building, and there were no injuries.
Seattle's drivers were in their usual fine form here, as at least two drove over what looked to be a charged hose line. There was also a person who tried to walk through the fire scene with their dogs. This was edited down from about 45 minutes of footage. I was still in bed when the PulsePoint app went off, so I threw on some clothes, quickly started recording the traffic camera, and ran out the door. I'm glad I did, as I ended up with some fairly dramatic footage, especially when the tree flared up.

Just as a PSA to everyone who happens across this, DO NOT drive over a charged hoseline. You risk rupturing the hose, causing the hose to separate at the coupling, causing the inner and outer hose layers to come apart etc. Unless directed by a member of the FD just turn around and find a different path. In my 3rd year on the job we had someone drive over our attack line and rupture it, while I'm on the nozzle and have fire rolling above me. The hose went limp and we had to back out which let the fire grow much larger as we deployed another crosslay. Also could have killed us easily. They did get some karma in the form of an angry battalion chief having them pulled over and arrested. It may be an inconvenience to find a detour, but you are potentially saving yourself a ton of money and the potential guilt of killing or injuring a firefighter.

I can't understand why some drivers went over that hose ! They saw there's fire, they saw the firefighters working on it, they saw the trucks, but didn't they see that hose?! Some people are just idiots.

The one blocking southbound traffic shows up at the top of the screen around 6:05, and the one blocking northbound arrives around 7:00. That one isn't in this video, but I got them in my in-person video, and they arrived right before M44 & Saft2. Staffing is pretty low right now...

Czech Republic here. There is no way in hell there would be this much (if any at all) through traffic around responding FD. Cops would have the nearest intersection blocked.

Well I didn’t see anymore traffic going through after those few cars were going through and since the firefighters just got there, there were some cars making a u-turn to not drive over the fire hose, since we can’t see the other end of this street, there were most likely police cars there since we didn’t see anyone else trying to get through. Whenever there’s a fire anywhere, there are always cop cars blocking through traffic on each side

@@SeattleTrafficCams We lost almost 140 officer to the vaccine mandate, and then when Seattle mayor pulled funding to aid the homeless crisis, but okay purchase of 30 new squad cars over recruitment incentives and wage increases to attract new hiring. We kinda got screwed, and as a security guard, we feel greatly when they straight say they have a 3 hour respond time to non emergent calls. So we sit with a shop lifter for 3hr just waiting for them.

Everything is clear about car drivers, but the bus (one) could have been allowed to pass in the right lane. Cars could turn around and follow other streets; the bus was not given this opportunity.

Lol talking about walking through a fire scene, many many years ago when i was still a teenager, i was walking on automatic from work to the bus station at the normal time, walked it hundreds of times so didn't really need to pay attention to here i was going or anything, can't remember what my mind was on at the time, but when i got home my mother asked if i had seen the fire and i said what fire, it was on the news huge fire large apartment store ablaze, street full of fire engines, hoses all over the place, i asked when it started and it had started over an hour before i left work, i realised at that point that i had walked down that street and must have stepped over god knows how many hoses and i didn't see a single thing 😂🤣😂
