I used to own one of these. A mk1 aero in white. It was a lovely car, and let me tell you, whenever you see one on tv or a picture, it doesn't do the cars any justice until you see one going past you or up close. They are a lovely thing. If you can stomach the ridiculous tax, they are a great hot hatch that not many people even know about. I saw 4 mk1s on the road in the 3 years I owned mine.

@willham1427 I ended up getting one cheap I hit 170mph and still had beans left. I've now got an old v70 t5 so running a 2.3 5 cylinder and more than anything it's the noise it's stunning.

Oh come on its an old Mazda MPS. Take any high performance car into a tuners and they will give it an extra 100hp more without to much effort, they were doing it to performance cars when I learned to drive more than 30 years ago its hardly a big deal and certainly not exclusive to this model car 😄

It’s unlikely that it’s tuned. 300 bhp was standard for this car and you can never find tune setups or mods for older Mazdas.

That 330d reading 160mph isn't too bad considering it will weigh 1600kg plus the police gear and has around 255bhp 400 ft ibs torque at a guess

@@265justy I'd sort of hope a tuned lighter car would be faster which it looks like it is. And petrol over 100mph tends to keep pulling better anyway. I've seen 400bhp 35d's x-drive f30s/f32s do 0-100mph in 9 seconds which is pretty brisk. I also know those mazdas handle power very well and go very well with it. I'm just saying a 1600kg car with 250bhp doing 160mph isn't that bad.

@acarguy3773 still got to get to 160 in the first place and weight affects acceleration. Im sure that mazda has a chunk more than 250bhp and weighs less hence why its buggered off up the road

Nearly bought this motor it's very underrated....I always wondered why noone got this over other motors on the road, then I looked at the road tax and it was more than i pay for insurance..its over 600 nicker to tax a year 🤢🤢🤢

I now own one lol I'd tel anyone to get one.......they are a wolf in sheep's clothing you feel like a pro behind the wheel I have other quick motors and I'll happily put this into corners and not let off where I'd back out in other motors. If ya can get one get the aero sport mazda 3 mps. Only 70 left on the road so getting rare. Under 900 all together over the world.

It likely to be 155 'actual' speed as speedos usually over-read (occasionally under-read) up to a few mph especially at higher speeds due to varies things like tyre tread etc that can affect the 'exact' accuracy of them.

@@christopher_amor_02_animat79 pretty sure the mps wasn't limited although I may be wrong. Also police speedos are calibrated for accuracy. And bmws tend to be accurate anyway. I've seen plenty of autobahn clips where speedo and GPS match

Mazdas are quick in general. I had an old BA 323F 1.5.. On paper it was rated top speed off 109 MPH. But I took mine to 126 MPH before it hoped the rev limiter in 5 gear. 😜

Mazda MPS is seriously slept on car, with 255bhp stock that car can bloody move, got the 6 right now but I’m definitely getting the MPS 3 for 2nd car
