I know this video is a little old now but you missed a key thing with Water: Step 9 does get used, just not by the CV A sequence. CV B resets to its starting position at 4 from step 2 and CV C resets to its starting position at 7 from step 5, i.e. A does not use 9, B does not use 3, and C does not use 6. It's shown like this in the manual: Output A knob steps: 12345678 Output B knob steps: 45678912 Output C knob steps: 78912345 This is so simple but I think it's subtley genius as it adds both cascading difference and overlap in that each sequence shares a note with the next sequence that it does not with the previous while sharing a different note with the previous that it doesn't with the next (i.e. B shares 6 with A but not C while B does share 9 with C but not A) and sending in reset triggers adds to that on both ends.

@@CinematicLaboratory You're welcome and thank *you* for all of the deeply, creative-oriented videos over the years! I've been watching your channel since I got into the modular stuff a few years back and really dig how you make a point of not making explicit "how to do X" or "here's every knob and jack on this module" tutorials while still providing technical details as you make pleasing sounds with whatever kit is in focus.

Thank you for attemping to crack the mystery of Hotel. My Traffic arrived before the advent of the Hotel panel overlay, and the info on it gave me a deep, unsettling feeling. Now i have a starting point. Cheers.

Beautiful demo ❤ so glad this is your module of 2023 so far 😊

An interesting note on ??? mode is that trigger 3 doesn't generate PURE random - what it does is seed 16 steps worth of random values every time you flip to that mode, and then it loops through those values. Switching out of that mode and switching back to it seeds a new set of 16 values. So there's even an element of "captured random" repetition there, which makes patterns a bit hookier!

Thanks for the tip… will definitely investigate this module, looks promising for variations during a jam

Beautiful track. It doesn't look like anything else, it's truly one of a kind!

I discovered Traffic/Water just two weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy 2 of them so I can run them concurrently rather than switch between. Along with NE Jam Jam, Traffic is THE module I want in my drum case.

also super curious about jam jam...

This module is a pure gem ! I use it with my Wobbler2 and it's ace ! :) As always, insane video :) Cheers !

Why did I not think of that! Wobbler2 will be amazing too!

Traffic is 100% my module of the year as well. Thanks for the video - I learned some new things! Also, I guess I bought mine earlier enough that it didn't ship with Hotel? 🤔
@CinematicLaboratory Жыл бұрын
I think it ships with revision 1.6, so it may be in your module as the 'mystery firmware'. Maybe just the Hotel overlay is missing. Slide the dipswitches both to the upper position and give it a try!

I somehow didn't realize these could be chained together! That's REALLY got me curious to try this module out, now!
@CinematicLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Chaining is cool if you need more CV outputs, but it will restrict to three triggers that would set six CV values (or more). In a Plaits example you'd have more outputs than needed and you'd be better off using two Traffics unchained, and two Plaits each providing three rhythmic elements. Together they'd be a six voice drum synth. Having a Traffic and a Water would make a lot of sense. That's the combo I went for :)

I recently got a DFAM and plan to see what magic I can get by driving it with traffic. Thinking about getting a second one for its use as Water (though I'll buy it already looking like Water). I love that you can switch firmware easily...

Very interesting modules, but somehow I feel it either suits you or not... They fit 'multipurpose' sound modules from i.e. Noise Engineerings very well. IO instruments is it's own eco system... Also very interesting and somewhat weird modules.
@CinematicLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Sure, modulars ar very personal. They just suit me very well. I also think Traffic is a cool match for the Nebulae when you want to dial in the exact sweetspots and trigger them. What applies to the Morph applies to anything with sample start/length. You'll see a lot of Traffic in the near future!

Omg blasphemy! I did not see bitbox in your rig once today how dare you lol. Saw soundstage and that is a module i am highly interested in.
@CinematicLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Yes, BitBox is on a holiday :). I am happy to have a Soundstage, but I haven't been using it a lot. I still need to find a patch that does it justice, but it would need a lot of voices to make use of all those inputs...
@joeymc5272 Жыл бұрын
@@CinematicLaboratory lol. I noticed on the bitbox so had to say something. Yes this is the only thing holding me back from the soundstage is the amount of voices needed to really make use of the stereo field capabilities of it. Whats on your favorite gear of 2023 this year by the way. I always like to see what you are using. Thanks again love the content
