I thought it was clickbait too but it’s real. An internet search for “Dodge Daytona Florida Hurricane” will turn up a Motor Trend article telling all about it. The car was turned upside down by water, both were completely submerged.

The original owner had over 2 cars in his collection He moved over 5plus cars to a safe place and had no time to move theses 2 cars .So he left them on the lift No one thought the hurricane would be this bad. What really is brilliant is your comment be nice to see your car collection and the fact that you think this is one of the hurricane cars. What about the owner of the P1 is he also brilliant

Well this is great. The guy has three more winged cars and Mark won't get to do any of them. Instead of Mark being happy for the family he wants to drive into oncoming traffic. Spending the kind of money to restore a car like this is an emotional experience. Needless to say I don't think they will want to go through that again after seeing Marks reaction to their story.

It was a 1969 Firebird 350 ,3 speed in 1975 ($900). I couldn’t afford nice tires and rims or any upgrades. I barely had gas and insurance money. That guy had a new Daytona at 16 ? He didn’t even look happy when he picked up the Daytona. I would have been out of my mind over joyed. I would have cried with joy. All I can say is, it must be nice to hand out Superbirds like Birthday cake.

40:00 Ha! I kinda started feeling the same. In 1999, 17 years old, I bought for $500 a 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z. I worked on that car all year. Spending what savings I had, all my money from the job I had (I was emancipated and graduated early, long story) and by the end of the year there wasn't a single part on that car I hadn't touched, removed and re-added. In 2008, I hit a dip in the road pretty hard (Las Vegas roads can be real crappy in some places) and put a hole in the oil pan. I didn't know that, until I left an intersection, went into second gear and THUNK The whole car lurched forward. I had enough momentum to get on a side street and the engine completely died. Threw a rod and a piston seized. I was not doing too well financially, so my father let me keep the car at his house as I gathered the money and started sourcing a replacement block. Eight months later I finally got my hands on one and me and my buddy got it loaded in his truck and went to my father's house to repair it. The car was gone. I thought it was stolen somehow. No. My stepmother convinced my dad to let some dude take it, for free, for his son to work on. A month before I showed up with the replacement block. It still had stuff I was going to pull off of it, but oh well. I left it in his driveway and went home. Didn't speak to him until about 2017. I still don't speak to my stepmother.

I am trying to understand the context here. He builds cars that back in the 70's were relatively cheap to own but now worth, in many cases, hundreds of thousands of dollars. We did not all grow up like the couple that own this car, I know I certainly did not, but to watch the commentary from the builder of this car was very unsettling. I don't understand what he is trying to acheive here. Don't think I want to subscribe if this is what I have to listen to.

In 1980 a friend of mine had traded in his 340 Duster for a 1970 Charger. Out of the blue he showed up in front of my house with the Charger and waved me out to the car. The very first thing I noticed was on the hood scoop 440 Magnum! Never heard of that but the name sounded wicked. Once I got in for the test drive he said put your seatbelt on.. I laughed and said "uh huh", then he repeated put your seatbelt on! So I did, and when he punched it I thought I was going to end up in the back seat as it took my breath away. That was the fastest car I'd ever been in... what a great memory. Also had what they called back then a His and Her Automatic shifter. One side auto and the other side with shift. (Slapstick)

A couple of days later; still running on generator power, I saw the story and the picture of this car on it's roofin front of their house. I cried my eyes out. I could never have a car like that and am happy for those that can. I am ecstatic that it was restored. I saw it a couple of weeks later going up 75 on a roll back and was scared to death it was going to the insurance yard to be junked.

The winged cars should be classified as art and Mark Wormer and his team considered MOPAR Michelangelos. When I was 14 years old I remember sitting in the stands of Dover Downs in Delaware..."The Monster Mile". On that day Richard Petty drove to victory lane in a Plymouth Superbird. Also in the race were Buddy Baker in a Dodge Daytona (driving for Petty Enterprises), Bobby Isaac and several others who drove winged cars. I loved those cars and still do. A side note: A few years ago my brother told me that during the 1960s, while spending the summer with relatives at their home in Michigan, my uncle, a Chrysler Executive, had one of the Chrysler Turbine cars at his house for evaluation. To my understanding, there were only 52 of the Turbine concept cars that were ever built making it even more rare than the winged Daytonas & Superbirds.

Great Daytona restoration! 👍👍💪💪👏👏 Amazing this family has 4 wing cars, for Mom & Dad & 2 sons. Great story how this Dad related how it all started at 16. Saw the preview shot at the beginning - 1 Superbird upside down, a different Daytona with no rear glass (not the one in this video? - tires & rims are different). In Florida! - probably when the last hurricane bypassed south FL and came inland in north FL. And I see the damage to their home too. So sorry to see this. But with hurricanes in FL for so many decades now (I live in so FL, and always spend hours and hours to protect the home), why was their home so unprepared, and also the cars were not protected? Sorry, that does not look like the same car that was in the hurricane. The hurricane car looks much paler shade of orange and does not have the black stripe around the rear wing area. I think they are completely different cars.

One person who is quoted saying the "coffee can full of rocks" was Bobby Isaac, in literature put out by Chrysler to promote the Daytona at the time. It would have been in the literature from the dealer and, I believe, in some ads that Chrysler ran back in the day (explaining how it might have been in a magazine as well). Of course, the description is so good, others may have said it as well.

I've really enjoyed the "Graveyard Carz" videos up to this point (I've been watching the episodes in a random, hit-and-miss order). Mark's cloying self-pity in this one, though, was really off-putting -- annoying to the point where it will be some time before I come back to this series. Y'know, Mark, you're not the only person who lost a parent in your high school years, you're not the only person who wasn't a "spooner," you're not the only person who had to struggle with adult emotions as an adolescent. But we don't use a nationally syndicated television program along with a You Tube channel and a Facebook page to piss and moan about it. Nor do we resent, forty years later, that back in the day some people had it better than we did. Time to grow up, Mark. I'll be back when you do....

My god, I like the guy, but does he have to remind everyone just how poor he was? I grew up in a children's home in coventry (uk) because my mother couldn't stop beating me. So I grew up knowing my mother hated me and my father was a women beater. He'd come home, see she'd been beating me, and then beat her, which meant when he was away again, she would beat me harder. So yeah, at least you had a mom who loved you.

Put Mark I would love to know why you did over talk them was this a joke? Did they totally do something wrong to you or what exactly happened there? I know you couldn’t just do that because you didn’t like them, so what’s the story?

After you do a patch panel on a car and the body work is done what do you do with the inside of the repair patch and you dont have acsess to the rear of a panel,i see where you also use a pressure washer on the insides of the car to clean it, what do you do when the water gets in between panels that are spot welded together, you know as well as i do that the water will start the rusting process all over again, that is the only problem i have with the process of the restore, keep up the good work guys.

The difference between the journeyman painter and the true master lies in the ability to see, define, match and scratch build complex glamour colors on todays cars . An understanding that far surpasses the perils of the tamorism affect. For example : the journeyman knows the color he mixed by formula doesn't match. It has 7 toners, including a green. But when he tries to fix it by using the formula toners it fails. BUT the master knows that the actual car was painted in the EU using a formula that contains 13 toners.. Where a blue and a yellow was used instead of a green. So he adds the proper yellow to the journeyman's color and then it matches. When the paint company say's to never deviate from the formula, they are referring to the 95% of journeymen, not the master.
