In my opinion, Joni should get the Nobel Prize for Literature. She's every bit as deserving as Bob Dylan. Her music and poetry is staggering.

So many people don't like the tone of her voice now. Her years of smoking took its toll on her vocal cords but personally, I love the tone of her voice now, better than when she was younger. When you listen to the lyrics of "Both Sides Now" & compare her original version to today's version you realize that it was written by a young person who hadn't experienced life fully & now, that same person has, & she was able to make it through to the other side. What a beautiful life journey, & she shared it with us.

@@dee_dee_place So do you think people even compare Bob Dylan's voice now to what it was when he was in his twenties? Nope. It's an inappropriate judgement of a woman that makes me disappointed in people who pull that crap. Cher's voice has changed as she's gotten older. Bonnie Raitt's voice is different, if you compare it from when she was in her twenties. Dionne Warwick's voice is different but it's still a beautiful voice. It's the QUALITY OF THE DELIVERY that matters.

Wow! This is wonderful! And the fact that she played her guitar again! People who are not guitar players probably don't realize what an incredible guitarist she is. The average person thinks that heavy metal shredders are great players, and many of them have great technique. But Joni belongs to a special pantheon of players that play the instrument in their own unique way. No one else plays like she does. In a world where everything seems so terrible these days seeing Joni playing and singing in front of a live audience is the best thing I have seen in a very long time.

I know multitudes across the globe love Joni, but it still seems she never has received the recognition she’s due. Joni’s fighting, restless spirit drove her to keep pushing the envelope and exploring new ways to express herself. Many didn’t like her evolution beyond folk music-just as many criticized her friend Bob Dylan-but I am so grateful that her Hejira took her through folk, pop, rock, jazz, and even classical. And she’s an accomplished visual artist to boot. Love you Joni!

I hope Joni gets the Nobel prize as her lyrics are uniquely insightful, eloquent, witty, sincere & totally original. It is magnificent poetry even without the incredible melodies that make her words soar. As a human race, to see the healing quality of music with a person like Joni Mitchell is like we're watching an inexplicable miracle before our own eyes. As a musician myself, I also can't forget to mention Paul Simon here: I'm always in awe of his ability to hold a crowd with incredibly intimate-sounding music, totally exposed to any tiny mistake in either playing or singing (which doesn't seem to make him nervous at all!), with the crowds of people listening intently, it's a literal sound of silence in the crowd. Wow! On the flip side, for my fellow musicians out here on KZbin -- see that musical background in the CBS studio? Talk about failing a music theory exam...LOL

Grew up w/ Joni/Joan, Melanie, Carley, Carole, etc, love them all, But Joni was by far my favorite, I have lived my life quoting Joni Mitchell lyrics...pretty much daily, “you brush against a stranger & you both apologize” “laughing & crying you know Its all the same release” Yep everyday I hear Jonis’ words in my head... she is simply the best! So much talent! Prince looked up to her, as did both MJ & JJ (who sampled her) Joni IS TRULY A LEDGEN!

I'm 67, sang my children to bed with her Carrosel song! They loved it and then sang it to my grandchildren! Her music still likes in my heart ❤️! Made a home movie for an art class in High School, using her song, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot "! Went to various parks, then construction sites, with my younger sister playing the roll of crying, and eventually made it look like she couldn't take it anymore and jumped off a parking structure. Edited, her lying below with Ketchup, and an ambulance going to a nearby hospital. I followed the songs words and got an A Plus! My first and only film. Loved her music and it inspired me, because my city was cutting down trees and creating Urban blight!

Joni Mitchell. You have always had my adoration. How could you pull even more from me? As a poet who has published over 20 books since undergraduate school in the mid-70s, I have often said you have been one of the MAJOR influences on my work and performance since the 60s when I began listening to you, learning from you. You are one of the great treasures of American, international music.

What a treasure and a wonderful example of not giving up as we age and to face the health issues that come at us as a challenge to do our best. She is a remarkable woman of my generation. ♡
