@@JohnKickboxingthey do, it's just not as visible due to the massive downforce. All cars do. Some cars it's very obvious, some cars it's very subtle, but they all have the slip angle.

The moment I got the slip angle right for the first time, something switched in my mind. I finally understood all the quotes, “slow is smooth, smooth is fast,” “brakes aren’t for slowing the car,” and yes, “slow in fast out.” They all clicked in my head and that’s when I thought, “This is why racers race,” controlling the car on the limit is a reward for practice. I don’t care that I’m not the fastest right now, I don’t want to be the fastest, I want to be the best.

Such a fantastic video RBM, and I can't believe I saw this IN ACTION only two days ago. So the setup was myself driving the KTM X-Box in Assetto Corsa against someone in the same car on Laguna Seca Online. I was the person in your "Split-Screen Screen-Shot" @ 3:33 driving arguably the Normal Approach. And yet the guy I was racing against, was playing me like a cat with a live mouse trying desperately to get away, hahaha. So when I got to the corkscrew I did that "normal approach" yet always ran wide coming out of the corkscrew - but the guy I was racing against came out of the corkscrew with what must have been that "Slip Angle' you talk about @ 3:33 - as he was soooo narrow coming out of that corkscrew, that he was perfectly set up for the next turn as well. Where as I was too far left, then had to veer too far right for that same left turn, and he would pull away from me every lap. So the moral of the story? :- is I couldn't understand / comprehend how he was doing it in the exact same car................................................. AND NOW I KNOW!!! So Thankyou Race Beyond Matter [:]-)

Thx bro 😃 and the problem is , if you watch replay in normal speed you can’t see that clearly because it happens very quickly and it clear only if you watch on slow motion 😃 took me years to understand how some people are going so much faster on the exit 😁

Your description is perfect, the car is like your dance partner. The top drivers also use the brakes in such a way to change the position of the car during cornering to set up the perfect exit. Once you start developing this feeling you start to learn how to get the maximum out of the car. It takes a lot of time and effort. Just imagine F1 drivers during the pre season testing will easily clock up over 500 laps on a circut in a single testing day. There is no shortcut to becoming fast. You explain this perfectly in your videos, and i think your advice helps people to really understand, much better than other coaching videos that i have seen.

This is exactly the recipe for speed. The ingredients are very hard to obtain but anything worthwhile is going to be hard at first. Right now I only achieve proper slip angle seemingly by accident but that is how it starts. If you can do it by mistake you can do it on purpose. The hardest part for me is putting everything else aside and focusing in on one specific technique. You have to turn the lap timer off and fully commit not to learning the track or shaving seconds little by little and just focus on the specific technique sometimes only in one corner over and over until you get it then move to the next corner and get it there then put the two together. This approach can be incredibly frustrating and seem like more work than fun but to be truly fast is going to require dedication and commitment otherwise learn to have fun driving several seconds per lap slower than the leaders. Thanks again for the words of wisdom we have come expect on this channel!

I use to say for year we must drive the cars more with the pedals and steering with the weight transfer! For me the fast driving have nothing to do from inputs point of view then normal driving! In real world is much easier to understand because you can feel all the different forces which in sim are missing but it works in the same way ! As you said, is so sweet feeling to have your car rotate around the corner with this little slip angle!

See this is why I stay subscribed to you...most channels are just fast drivers just showing themselves racing, or giving basic tips for newcomers to racecraft ("slow in, fast out") and that's okay...but you tell it like it is with minimal BS on what it takes to be REALLY fast: maximizing momentum and slip angle are such a big key to going really fast and I only started unlocking this in my brain in the last year or so (and I've only heard you and maybe one other youtuber talk about it and I'm subscribed to quite a number of simracers), but also it really clicks when you can feel the changing grip levels with better equipment. I also didn't like how, before the news of affordable Direct Drive with Fanatec CSL DD, lots of youtubers would underplay how big of a gamechanger a DD wheel can be if you have the potential to be fast (as if they didn't want people with entry level gear to feel bad...nothing's wrong with acknowledging better equipment). Some people can be fast with only visual cues, but others need physical cues and using a DD wheel made everything make sense for me. The whole "DD won't make you fast, but more consistent" line is kinda misleading, because being inconsistent from lack of tactile information is exactly what makes many slow. I'm still not at those alien speeds yet, but I'm much closer, and every now and again something clicks and for a brief moment I can go very fast (occasionally matching VRS laptimes under same conditions)...but I need lots more practice to access that ability consistently. Also agree people should take time to master the things you want to do and bring you joy, not the things the world wants you to do that bring you stress; screw what others think, you have 1 life to live. Sorry for the long comment, but thanks for the videos!

You just bring it every time, don't you? I've been watching your videos and I can't say enough about them. The concepts laid out here are so simple yet I've never seen anyone break it down the way you do. As in other vids of yours, the very clear and descript explanations of the proper methods makes this fun because there is so much to learn. I will admit I had watched a couple of your videos regarding pedals and then the perfect sim video and found instant effects. So running only two races in and now starting in Pole because my posture, pedals and focus had been more in tune and I was aware of it thanks to you. This video has me so pumped to get back on the track, and I will as soon as this is posted. The knowledge you've passed on free of charge is absolutely priceless and I can't thank you enough. It's certainly appreciated because I love the sport. Starting out in sim racing isn't easy but with the proper concepts being delivered in the manner you do is one of my greatest Rookie advantages because I understand now there's a lot more to winning races than speed, it's developing my racecraft through state of mind, focus, methodology and practice. Your vids are very helpful and I hope to one day race alongside you. Keep the rubber side down!! Cheers ✌😎

Nice video!!!! I've seen others talking about all the basic techniques, some even delve a bit into the slip angle but nobody makes a deep dive like you and explain what is actually happening and absolutely nobody is talking about carrying momentum, the corner ends at the apex for them. One thing to note however for all fellow simracers out here. Try these tips in practice a lot. Also bear in mind you need rather good equipment to consistently pull them off, especially slip angle and momentum phases. Without a good steering wheel you will struggle a lot to react fast enough by using your eyes alone, and without good pedals you will struggle to be absolutely accurate in your inputs every single lap. Once you master these tips it is then simply a matter of racecraft and identifying the absolutely optimal line. Funnily enough the video starts with the first turn of Laguna Seca, which has two possible lines (the optimal one is tight but the wide late second apex is also viable in certain conditions)
@chepilevski
@chepilevski 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you buddy ❤️ and you are absolutely right man ! Equipment really matters and even if you can achieve great times with low end equipment you may not even understand what exactly is going on with the car ! Your advices are gold and as you said , T1 in this track with the two different lines exist in so many tracks!

@@chepilevski of course, that's why with more powerful cars than the mx5 i tend to pussyfoot and go full survival mode instead of going for laptimes. I only race once in a while for SR rating in GT cars because the lack of equipment fundamentally changes my usual driving style by a lot i.e. retraining my brain on how to be slow and i have noticed it that after extended periods in GT cars when I jump back to the MX5 im two seconds off my usual pace for a few laps until i regain my confidence. Heck if this happens to F1 drivers this can happen to anyone. We've all seen Vettel how his lack of confidence last year made him look as if he has forgotten how to drive and it's not as if, he literally forgot how to drive and it took him 5 races to re-learn how to drive in Aston Martin. The brain is malleable and shapes to whatever you're feeding it. I absolutely love your content and if you're ever find yourself in Cyprus let me buy you a non-alcoholic beer (we've got racing to do later)

I am trying to improve in golf as well as sim racing, and I think there is a comparison to be made. You can learn all of the basics of golf (setup, positions etc), and still not have a decent swing. It's not until your mind has a clear picture of what you are trying to do (and that picture is correct) that you see improvement. I believe this is why golf instruction books and videos are only a small help in improvement. That would also explain why track guides only go so far to improve pace. Your videos highlight the important concepts of achieving lower lap times. Only by internalizing those concepts and making those concepts a matter of habit do we improve in pretty much anything. I have seen very few videos that explain those concepts as well as yours! And you always mention the importance of practicing those concepts. Thanks very much!
@chepilevski

Absolutely Marcus ! I really believe we only gather information from books and videos but the actual learning is only we we get emotionally involved in the idea and start working hard on it ! Every time I learn something from books and I feel I know how to do it have nothing to do with the reality and the results in the beginning are ridiculous 😁 but if I have concept everything comes in place after practicing the new skills and I talk about anything not just driving! I started this channel because I believe the Simracing community have the base to understand the concept and can apply this in anything later in life ! That how it happens to me and things are coming so easy now to me ! And even if is hard In the beginning I never get frustrated because I know the results will come 100% at some point 😃

Thanks for the amazing video my friend. I always watch your video until the end. I have been playing sim racing for a year now... really love it. I don't play every day only weekend for maybe 1-2 hrs only. I'm still racing with AI and will only race online if I can beat AI with highest level. It's funny that yesterday when I was driving my Camry in a hurry, I use my signal and headlight stick as my paddle shifters to shift and I just laughed out loud.

Hey Chepi, I’m constantly getting my ACC ratings up now, slow but steady. Consistency is my “new thing”! 😂 Still im working on my basics but had a smile on my face when you mentioned those small steering corrections! 😊 I already did those by accident/instinct a few times! Love it! 😍 take care!
