Currently running in the Nike Wildhorse 6. Tried the Altra Timp 2 also but the Wildhorse fits the heel so well! The rock plate is huge for the very rocky trails here in Phoenix. Wildhorse 6 is definitely worth a look!

I’m rotating the Hoka Torrent, Hoka Speedgoat 3 and the new Adidas Terrex Two Boa. My plan for this year was the Torrent and Speedgoat, but when I saw the updates on the Terrex Two I had to try them. It is super wide and stable with a ton of Lightstrike cushioning. Plus I really like the Boa lacing system on them.

It looks like they designed the Wildhorse 6 more for mud. The fewer lugs should help to not pick up as much mud, and the extra foam around the ankle would help with stability.

It would be interesting to see a cheap/relatively cheap shoe battle. Downshifter 9 vs adizero rc2(adidas sl20) vs under armour charged impulse vs saucony type a9. Abebe Bikila won a marathon barefoot. Kipchoge used to wear the zoom streak and he did very well in these. If things go on like this, in 5 years, running shoes could go for over 500usd, which is absolutely insane.

Running long trail in the Speedgoat 3 and shorter stuff in the Wildhorse 5! Great review! This 6 seems like it’s a middle ground between what I’m currently alternating. Might be my new “go to” when I’m due!

Those smaller, closely spaced lugs on the Wildhorse 5 are mud collectors here on the trails in Thailand. I have some Adidas trail shoes that have larger, more widely spaced lugs that actually look very much like those on that new Wildhorse 6, and they are so much better on muddy trails. But as Seth said, if you have to run a few miles on pavement before and after your trail run, and your trails are not too muddy or technical, the smaller, more closely spaced lugs would be good.

Congratulations, your videos are fantastic !!! I am now using the Brooks Divide and they have been a discovery. Cushioned, stable, very comfortable (somewhat wide upper not valid for very narrow feet). A question: I have seen many videos where the stability of Wildhorse 6 was criticized, because instead you say that they are very stable? Thanks and congratulations on the work you do!

QD: Brooks Cascadia 14’s are my go to trail runners right now. Picked them up back in late 2019 when they first came out because they’re built like a tank in terms of durability, they updated the outsole of the shoe to something very similar to a lot of Solomon shoes, and the shoe lost over an ounce from the previous year!

QD: Did 14 miles with a lot of elevation gain and every surface type imaginable in my Hoka Speedgoat 3s yesterday. Can't complain. I typically use these when trying a new trail where I don't know what to expect, because they do everything pretty well. Last week I ran the Inov-8 Trailroc 285s on some fairly technical mountain bike trails. They performed amazing, but the not quite the comfort of the Hokas - don't like taking these much past 7 or 8 miles.

QoD - I picked up the Terra Kiger 5 last year for trail race day. Still love it, and with only 50 miles in them, lots of life left for 2020. At the opposite end of the spectrum, I did just pick up the HOKA Speedgoat 3 on clearance today. Excited to bomb with that this summer...still hoping to hit up Quandary Peak this summer if our vacation plans hold. 🙏

Hey seth! Brilliant video.. really want to get the wildhorse 6. I know you said the 5 were more of a commute shoe.. but could I also run pavement with the 6?
do you think the wild horse 6 could also be used as a commuter shoe? i really like the shoe and would like to try it but am worried about wasting money if you don’t think it could work as a commuter shoe compared to the wild horse 5. thanks!

I have been running in the 5s for about 9 months and my only complain is wet traction. I ordered the new version 6 and really was excited but I just couldn’t get the same level of midfoot lockdown as in the 5s. My foot is very low volume though for perspective. I did run some wet muddy trails with one shoe on each and was surprised that the traction of the 6s were really the same for the most part despite the drastic change in lug design and layout. I was expecting a big improvement which I didn’t feel. The gator was awesome and the cushioning was definitely nicer than in the 5s. For me the 5s just fit better after they had broken in. Picked up another pair for 60 bucks!
@josimar734 жыл бұрын

QOD: I have the Wildhorse 5, Altra Superior & Pegasus 36 Trail. I fell in love with the Wildhorse 4, ran my first 50 miler and other trail races, loved the weigh, cushion and comfort, but cannot get now, so I bought the 5. Altra is light, fast and grips great, just faster races. Pegasus Trail, well something new to try, falls between both the others.

QOD: I only have 1 trail shoe by Merrell at the moment. I don't remember the model but I went on a number of hikes in the shoes and works well for me. My footing is better and I can gain better speed. The only down side is once it hits 20km, the front of my foot started to ache. The toe box is a little narrow for long distances. But will still use it to death before I explore a new trail shoe. I was previously on the Brooks Cascadia which I really didn't like it at all. It was heavy, the lugs are not deep enough, I sprained my ankles a couple of times in it. Shoes in Malaysia (upon conversion) is relatively expensive and I couldn't afford to buy more shoes. So once I dropped the Cascadia, the lugs died off, I got the Merrell.

QD. Have not invested in a pair of trail specific purpose shoes. While I have been running for 20+ years I have mostly run track and XC with focus post HS and college on road running and specifically the marathon. Running XC has meant I have run on all terrains as part of the XC race calendar including trails however I have used Asic DS Trainer, Pegasus 35/36 and XC spikes for most races. As a relative novice in the finer points of trail running footwear I would like to ask the DGR family their advice on how the Nike Terra Kiger 6 and Nike Wildhorse 6 differ (other than obvious aesthetic construction) and how these differences may in your opinion mean different applications of each shoe being one may be more suited to a certain application while the other may lend itself better to certain trails or conditions? Ultimately I would assume with trail running just like on the road you would be looking for shoe rotation so how would the Terra Kiger 6 and the Wildhorse 6 fit into a trail running shoe rotation? Thanks for your advice to this seasoned runner yet trail running novice.

Just tried this shoe and like it . I have zero fit in toe box is good for me and o have a wider foot (not insanely wide but I have a narrow heel and wider forefoot and was fine . , Issues; it is a little bit heavy for a runner and a bit warm for any hot days . Just took it out on rainy trails and it did well. Upper holds water enough that it is pretty heavy after rain running otherwise fine. The midsole is great. Love the foam; just right in terms of protection and response . If you heel strike on this shoe it feels unstable if you stay off the heel and stay midfoot to forefoot , then feels perfect. Another fit issue for me is if I lace it down hard enough to have zero heel slip I get numb toes so having some issue there but that is something common for my foot shape....

@loganharder61444 жыл бұрын
BreezyBoyBoy they are definitely not made as an everyday shoe. They are definitely a racing shoe. The “pop” of the shoe usually lasts from 80-150ish miles. But after that it can easily be used as a workout shoe. You can do workouts in them but it definitely decreases the lifespan quickly. There are way cheaper options for daily trainers
