What skid plates do you have and where'd you vet them? I have the same exact jku just a Sahara, been looking for good plates but options are very limited.

Knowing Jason it’s metalcloak skids. I have the same skid plates and 100% recommend them. I went through the rubicon without them and bent my stock tranny crossmember, metalcloak supplied a beefier. Only complaint is the time it takes to remove and install when you gota get behind them.

37 is the ultimate ‘have fun’ size. Big enough to appropriately push Dana44s to their limits and small enough to require all those hard earned driver skills (on the right terrain, of course!). I’m glad to hear you are loving the new axles and I absolutely love watching this rig and driver get better and better!

Great content! For whatever reason, I set my heart on 37" tires for my Fj40 Years ago (we're talking like 20 years... ago..). So hearing your take on the tire size and gear ratio is incredibly helpful. I did pick up some used 37's for mock-up but will need to decide on a particular brand when it starts moving. BF's have always been a contender. I appreciate your take on things, looking forward to the next video.

Great video Jason!! Was good to hear your comment about the improved stability on the Fusion setup. After getting mine, I made a similar comment followed by, "Maybe it's just me." Now I feel comfortable saying it out loud to anyone that asks... lol. I also agree with the beauty of the PSC assist setup, a lot less work in those tricky situations. I originally installed mine on a 1 ton RPM steering get, but after two months I moved up to a 2.5 ton kit with double shear. The Jeep is WAY less flighty on the open road. Keep up the Great work!

Jason Great stuff!! A while back you gave me a comment on a reply when I mentioned I installed the DB3 on my JLUR. My second video @jeepNdirt (no camping overlanding) was the second time I took full advantage of the ride on a fall exploring / overland type trip with my wife and as you stated on your video (that long arm feel and great handling) was all I experienced in addition to the great climbing / traction on one particular park here on the east coast (Outdoor in the Smokies) where the main Black Diamond trail was 30 to 32 degree incline to the peak. You are so accurate in your description. Also, I'm a little on the fence about your current tire size. While I agree that the 37 is a great all around tire size a 37 is really a big 35. For me although I have 38's on my JL (to have a close to size 37) and know that the newer M210 /220 series axles are strong enough to handle on that set up, now that you have Fusion axles, specifically that 60 on the rear, I think your jeep would benefit from 38's for that close to size 37 which would give you just a tad bit more clearance under that pumpkin and more of that "40's" look. Not taking away from your current set up at all, because in the end I think there's NO WAY you're likely to break axles, but prior to learning to accept 4 door jeeps (I'm an old school YJ guy of over 22 years) I always loved the look of a JKU on 40's and themed my JLUR build that way, but on 38's. Great video and very inspiring as always.

Yeah, interesting progression really. If I had an unlimited budget and the tires were available... I would've ordered both axles at the same time with a 5.13 gear ratio and looked for a set of KM3's in the 39" flavor. That would maximize my setup but I think learning to drive this well... will go a long way. Plus, the peace of mind I have in "under tire sizing" the components is really good.

You videos are always great when it comes to your Jeep. I chose to stop at 37s on my Rubicon for nearly all the same reasons your spoke of regarding 40s. But mainly I didn't want to drop the coin on 1 ton axles. I just beefed up the Stock Dana 44s. The 37s are perfect if gearing is correct. I went a little more extreme on the gears though and went with 5.13s. Also, I am on a RK long arm kit. Seeing your rig move side to side as you went through the rocks vs what it would do on a long arm setup would be night and day. When are you going long arm?

Good stuff. I wouldnt just take that puck bump out. Go get some clay, place it on the frame, and go hit some whoops where you max the bumps out for real. The clay will deform. Use that measurement to adjust your bumps. Only reason I mention this is because you have those metalcloak progressive bump tops. They have a ton more room for compression under heavy load.

@JEEP-N-DIRT
@JEEP-N-DIRT Жыл бұрын
With the DB3 (metalcloak) rear brackets it's almost not necessary to get long arms unless you're going to ton's and 40's. There are many who say the drop brackets "hang up all the time", but as anyone can clearly see in this video that's not the case. Can they hang up? Sure, but do they hang up all the time? Depends on your wheeling style. Also if considering rear long arms even with 37's or 38's then opt for the tuck up style kit or custom build your self so that the arms are not in the way otherwise the potential for hang up could possibly be more than by using the DB3 bracket. (This is really clearly understood on the Metalcloak website and video about the DB3 bracket). I'm personally on 4.5 inches of actual lift running 38's on my JLUR (As seen on my channel jeepNdirt) with the DB3 rear brackets and couldn't be happier. As jason pointed out in his video when he first installed them they truly give that flat feel, stable ride, and seemingly better climbing traction when off road due to that "anti-squat" geometry stuff that I won't try to explain as there are so many who do it WAY better than I could on KZbin. Good luck with your build and "rock" on. Lol.

Long arms move the low point up when the suspension compresses, db3 brackets low point is fixed. Jk rear arms are shorter than fronts. I usef to do extreme rock crawling, rode right seat competing in a Shannon Campbell built yj buggy, my interest is in driveability as a dual purpose rig. I have a Crawl of100+ to one on 37"s with a tremec and 4.10s. Eventually 40s tons 5.38s 130 to 1.

It is my workhorse vehicle at the moment... grinding out commuter miles around LA. Trying to plan a camping trip with my dog in it as soon as I can make it happen... but life keeps getting in the way.

I have 2016 JKL and want your advice. I want to keep it factory height and not put a lift kit on it but make it stronger than stock…any suggestions?

Absolutely! Chromoly axle shafts, metalcloak under armor (skid plates), rocker protection and then go wheel the heck out of it. I also recommend a winch.

That's an easy one... got it from MetalCloak in 2016 and it's holding up great. Here's a link to the video and the direct link to the product is in that description!
