Thank you for creating such an informative video. I've seen numerous tutorials on rebuilding the heater box or upgrading to a larger matrix, but yours stands out as the best. I have to confess, I've probably watched this video about 20 times-countless times before starting the project and repeatedly during its execution. The level of detail you provide is truly superb.

No expensive workshops, just refreshingly real and practical explanations and demonstrations 👍. Your simply the best Chris, and your videos are timeless, just like the 300 TDI.

Nice restore and upgrade, does the opening flap crash or hit against it? Thanks for sharing

Great video, I need change my blower so can use this as a guide. Might as well change my heater matrix too as my 89 defender ain’t the best either.

have a TDI300 in a 97 Def and have an aftermarket heater A/C. I wanted to run a simple setup and have the org heater coolant out and return line with a valve (supplied by the Aftermarket HVAC) - but I have been advised that the lines require constant flow or engine cooling is at risk (and also the opposite- it doesn't matter) which is correct?

What’s the best way of cleaning all the rust off sheet metal like that heater box? Blast cabinet or rotary wire brush?

I roof mounted an 12v fan heater off eBay in my defender. On those cold mornings it blows warm air down the back of my neck. 😂

Brilliant ... I think I'll have to re-overhaul my heater box as I did a rush job to replace the matrix and I wasn't happy with the end result. Out of interest did you find a suitable replacement resistor? Mines gone and I'm not interested in spending the earth on a replacement ...

I'll let you know. Part number required for a search

BTW I just got your package. Postie just left a note. Not fair since I couldn't get to the sorting office. Got them to redeliver. Thank you.

No worries mate... thank you for the cracking deal... if you have any more let me know ;o) I searched and searched... it's aftermarket or a kidney job for a suitable resistor ...

Hi Chris. Great information! Can you recommend what to use for padding the inside of the heart box?
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
Depends what you want to insulate it for? Vibration or waterproofing?

The padding for the flaps inside the heater box.

I just read that it is1/4" heat-resistant EPDM 2.5psi closed-cell foam, with a 215 degree degree F max temp. Is this correct? Where would one source this material?
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't know where to get that from. I doubt you'd need anything so technical due to the amount of heat that really gets put through there. Perhaps at most 90 degrees C?

oh yeah... whatever came of the one paddocks got from you once youd done with restoring it? did they sell it or what?

Hi Chris, great video. I've just stripped my box, painted and rebuilt. I have the foam seal which sits inside the heater box recess, but not found any info on the 'second seal' you mention in the video. The seal which i have (shaped to fit into the recess) actually sticks out quite a bit. Does this just get compressed up against the bulkhead to make a good seal? Or should it be cut back? Thanks

Ya good vids about by removal bar inssttall etc but with that trouble nd hassle can you not design a bar say from the centre flat nd do a l shape over the soldiers seat flat bar nd up 2 the side cab 2 retain the sides nd roof strength my reasons being that YOUR also can reclim your you seat as much as possible nd have a comfy sleep ? .I going 2 my metal man explain make what I need nd for f all dou

man your really going to town restoring this one.. I laughed when you said your heater box was painted the wrong shade.. fook me like I would give a shit... I gather your keeping this one yourself instead of finishing it and paddocks taking it away? That must be heartbreaking... I did one 4 yr ago and the traffic cops took it because of a replaced chassis and I fought for it back and despite legit salvage receipts for the chassis they crushed it (so they say)...
@tomthompson74004 жыл бұрын
really .. ?? Where did you get the replacement chassis from , if it caused all the problems , you may be onto something here
