I don't even have a land rover and found your work very beneficial.

Thanks, Land Rover after all is just like any other vehicle just it has its own quirks. Glad we are of help!

I am about to do my first clutch on my Defender. I am already walking funny from fear pucker. You have really created some fantastic source materials Sir. Thank you.

Ah! lightbulb moment! Thanks, Gearbox out then, R380 that I converted to stumpy myself. Thank god I didn't get rid of the LT77. You're a gentleman!

+Paul Bellard ah okay. Stumpy huh? Rare gearbox.

+Land Rover Toolbox Videos. it started life as a disco R380. And after watching your gearbox vids I had a go, stripped it down replaced the parts, to make it fit. I'm guessing that I haven't shimmed the main shaft correctly or the bearing race on the front cover is wrong. I'll drop the box out, put the LT77 back in and strip the R380 down again. All good fun!

The new replacement thrust arm is pretty flimsy compared to the old Series cast iron one. Land Rover is not the only one out there that has the ball pushing through. I've seen Subarus have the same failure.
@trailerfitter22 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is a real Achilles heel with that system.

it looks like that staple could just come out as it only sits in 2 holes, any thoughts on stopping that?

So Surprised you didn't suggest ziptieing the push rod and plastic holder to clutch fork to prevent it from future issues

what grease do you use for the bearing and pivot? so many opinions from moly based (though some says it turns liquidy under high temp) to copper slip to synthetic. Any choices that are best with these LT77 setups?
@trailerfitter28 жыл бұрын
+Steve G copper slip is okay or just regular grease. it is not going to get too hot in there. I will say that the lubricant will dry out and the metal will polish itself on the pivot. Land Rover release fork is not the best design.

Looking at this video again. you know difference between STC8362 and 8510310? confusing to me. I have two defenders working on . LT77 to 3.9 V8 and a R380 to a 4.2 V8. R380 gearbox is from ashcroft and mating a D1 flywheel and bellhousing with it. Many Thanks in advance if you have any sorts your way...

Hi, I have pulled my gearbox out to investigate a very grinding clutch. I discovered a completely shattered release bearing, and the clutch plate had cracks in it so the splined collar was rattling around. you mentioned constant pinion bearings, would there be any way to check that with the box out?
@trailerfitter28 жыл бұрын
Check for play in the shaft and roughness on the bearing if you can feel it in the shaft.
@paulbellard11238 жыл бұрын
Cheers, no play at all and feels smooth when rotated. I'm hoping that my noise issue is down to the clutch issues. Thanks for your reply, once again!

Nice video....Thought I'd ask a question. Can I use a tdci puma engine and gearbox on an older chassis?- with some mods ofcourse I have a 1986 defender and I want to use a 2007 engine and gearbox with a 2007 bulkhead...Thx for any response

What is wrong with the Puma chassis?

Great Videos I watch them a great deal at the start of projects. I have done my clutch on my 200tdi defender, but the release bearing staple has now come off twice and the rattle from the bearing is unbearable(excuse pun) do you have any tips on stopping this happening? Thanks Paul.
@trailerfitter28 жыл бұрын
+Paul Bellard It is a pain that staple. It shouldn't be needed once the bearing is in place.
@paulbellard11238 жыл бұрын
so why does my release bearing sound like I've got a team of metal bin drummers going at it when idling? noise goes when I depress the clutch pedal. is there a more permanent way to fix the bearing to the clutch fork?
@trailerfitter28 жыл бұрын
+Paul Bellard That is either your clutch springs rattling or the bearing on the constant pinion noisy.
