Wonderful drive. I can tell you're route knowledge is on point 👌always a smooth stop. I like the race with the DDZ at Leiden. I assume that was the Groningen train the conductor was talking about. A quick leap across the platform for connection passengers. Just to add, I like the video camera left running when paused in stations. Better than skipping the wait in my opinion.

Hi Stefan. Nogmaals bedankt! A lovely evocation of a midsummer evening. The map of the journey is a helpful addition, though keep one handy when I watch your journeys. I was listening to a programme on the Radio about the Rijksmuseum, they said the same architect designed Amsterdam CS. Haarlem's my favourite, it looked very grand to me when I first arrived there as a small boy! Cadwch yn iach (thats' Welsh) / Keep well!

Hi Christopher! 😁😁 My pleasure as always. Good to hear you like the map of the journey in the video. Will continue doing so. You're correct. Rijksmuseum and Amsterdam Central Station are made by the same designer. 😁 I love Haarlem too btw. The most beautiful station in our country is by far Groningen. 😁

Excellent video, thanks..... A decade or so ago I commuted Delft - Rotterdam & knew both the old & new stations at both places. Big differences! Good to see them again, and find out about Delft Zuid!! Many thanks!!
@MachinistStefan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie! :D Yeah... al lot has changed in the past few years and we're working hard to make all stations, tracks etc even better for more trains and passengers in the future. And indeed... Delft Zuid is now called Delft Campus. In the near future this will be the first station in The Netherlands fully working on solar power (except for the trains).
@eddiestuart38984 жыл бұрын
@@MachinistStefan Tx for that - interesting & good about Delft Campus!! When I first did that journey, still dozing in the morning (not my best time!) I used to wake as we approached Rotterdam as we crossed tracks on the flat - the left/right motion. Then it became flying junctions - no left/right to wake sleepyheads but far more efficient for the railway. Presumably it'll be a while before it's 4 track all the way through Delft?

Do you know if ProRail has plans in the works to reactivate the two southern tracks between Schiedam n Rotterdam CS? The former Hoek tracks. Seems to me that since ICDs skip Schiedam while Sprinters stop (and normal ICs, such as this one [: ), that noticeable schedule gains could be had between Rotterdam and Delft by making use of those two tracks which already exist, allowing ICDs to pass sprinters at Schiedam before merging into the two track section (especially since they're going thru the extensive fuss to four-track-ify Delft Campus -- Rijswijk). Probably the schedule gains wouldn't be worth constructing those tracks from scratch, but since they already exist, why not use 'em? All it would need is a few new switches in the southwest part of Rotterdam CS to connect those tracks to existing platforms, quite cheap by railroad standards. A few switches for several minutes' schedule savings per ICD-Sprinter pair seems like an easy win to me.
@MachinistStefan4 жыл бұрын
Hi! :) I think they will come back to use after 2025 again. There are plans to make the whole traject from Leiden to Dordrect a four tracked traject. Meaning that after the work in Delft is done there will be construction works coming up between Delft and Rotterdam in time. This could not be done in one time because of shortage on money. :)

They are there to alert people on the tracks (i.e. construction workers) that a train is approaching. They are mostly placed on sites where the view on the tracks is blocked by platforms, viaducts, bridge posts or in bends.

@MachinistStefan4 жыл бұрын

And that's perfect way to relax at the end of the week and to start the weekend, thanks for your work :) Any plans for recording a ride to Maastricht?
@MachinistStefan4 жыл бұрын
Hi! :D Thank you so much and glad you liked it! :) I'm not allowed to drive further to the south than Eindhoven. So I can't record video's to Maastricht. :) Maybe sometime later when I'm getting new tracks added to my account.
@witekborowski14104 жыл бұрын
So does it work in a way where you have to be certified for every track separately in order to drive on it, or is there something special about those railroads south of Eindhoven, like i.e. different signaling?
@Zerk19784 жыл бұрын
@@witekborowski1410 Dutch train drivers (as in most parts of the world) need to know the tracks they're driving. It is not so much a matter of difference in rail systems or signalling (which is mostly universal in The Netherlands) but more a matter of experience with the route. Knowledge of the routes consists of where crossings, stations, signals and speeds limits are on the route. So yes, a train driver needs to be permitted to drive on every single route seperately. Another thing is that a single shift on a train can't last more than two/three hours and as Meester Stefan is based in Amsterdam, he's more likely to ride routes within the proximity of two hours from Amsterdam. As further than Eindhoven would take more than two hours, he would have to travel to Eindhoven first to start his shift. One can imagine that this wouldn't be cost-effective to his employer. Deploying a Maastricht or Eindhoven train driver would be more sensible. As chances are slim for him to drive south of Eindhoven, there is still a theoretical chance he might one day. Would make an awesome video! Another thing is the maximum of a daily shift which is (I guess) nine hours at NS. It would be a tight schedule to let an Amsterdam train driver drive to Maastricht, take a break and return to Amsterdam within a daily shift.
@UnshavenStatue4 жыл бұрын
@@Zerk1978 Well it's perfectly normal for drivers from the north to drive a train to Eindhoven, take a break, then drive from Eindhoven to Maastricht/Sittard, then do the same thing in reverse -- four drives, none more than 3 hours, and all four of which fit into a single 9-10 hour shift. Same thing for Maastricht-based drivers going north of Amsterdam/Zwolle.
@UnshavenStatue4 жыл бұрын
@@MachinistStefan Well I've seen you drive south of Eindhoven, so perhaps better to say you're not allowed to drive *alone* south of Eindhoven :)

Ha Arjan! :D Jazeker!

@MachinistStefan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter! Thank you so much for commenting again. You're right.. the Japanese always persuit perfection. We try to do that in The Netherlands as well, but it does not always work out that well. Haha.
