This looks really good, pretty convincing. By the way, have you guys ever heard of David Mitton? He's the director from the original Thomas the Tank Engine. He's basically the Steven Spielberg of shooting with miniatures, and he had a bunch of tricks for making it look more realistic.
@MiniaturesFX10 күн бұрын
Thanks. Where can we see his work ?
@Baello9999 күн бұрын
I think there are some online documentaries covering his techniques. Stuff like the periscope lens and slowing down the footage.
@jamesyboi018 күн бұрын
@@MiniaturesFX I’m not sure what other projects Mitton worked on, but Thomas the Tank Engine series 1-7 were all directed by him as well as Tugs (only 1 season) Strongly recommend watching for miniature work. Many people consider season 5 to be the best (or at least most adventurous) of the miniature/practical effect work.

The plastic train models do not have realistic impacts on the rocks/cliff wall/water. The plastic models do not absorb the shock and buckle as a metal coach would. I also noticed that in some shots, the locomotive tender was visible falling while in others, it was conspicuously absent, but overall impressive work.
@Allegheny500Ай бұрын
Agreed, the passenger cars would have crumpled on impact and the steam engine would have exploded when it hit the water, and by that I mean a steam explosion, lots of white steam and boiler parts flying with the engine looking like it was disemboweled at the front.

Two points,obviously HO scale(beautifully done layout),1)Should have used Belgian locomotives,as they actually would have hauled Wagon-Lits cars! 2)English engines really do need headlights,only now,in the 2000's have they been equipped! Otherwise,a superb job of miniaturized movie making! That job must have taken(minimum),4-5 months,excellent work! Thank you 😇 😊!

Nice work. This reminds of that movis set in Germany and it has one of those DB locomotives at the front and there was people onboard that had to stop the coaches going off the bridge with the cranked brake. I cannot remember the name of the film but the carriages had the windows sealed off with metal panels so they could not escape. It was a movie from the 1980's but sadly I don't know the name but this scenario is similar to that film.

Why didn’t the actual film make this scene with miniatures?!
@MiniaturesFXАй бұрын
The film crew made a lot of real footage with a real locomotive and cars, that’s why I really like the Tom Cruise’s movies. But the sequence could have been very difficult with 100% of SFX.
@trainlover16Ай бұрын
@@MiniaturesFX Oh I know that, but according to The Corridor Crew, the train was mostly completely replaced with CG for the crash, which I don’t understand WHEN THEY’D ALREADY FILMED THE PRACTICAL TRAIN FALLING OFF THE BRIDGE AND CRASHING, spending all that time and money on doing the crash for real only to replace most shots with CG is ridiculous, illogical, and is a HUGE waste to me. And as for that whole “oh it was just for good reference material for the CG artists” argument, I see that argument as complete bullcrap for the reasons I’ve explained, and also simply because practical effects simply look better and more convincing than CG effects 90% of the time. Would you care to explain to me the logic in NOT using the expensive and time consuming practical footage you’ve already filmed and replacing it all with CG? In my opinion, I say they should’ve kept as much of the full scale practical stuff they filmed with the engine crashing as possible, and used miniatures for the coaches falling into the river.

You should do like a little skit of an earthquake where skyscrapers are collapsing and the ground is breaking and stuff like that. Something like 2012 or San Andreas
@delta-zy6gt8 күн бұрын
that was amazing, but they forgot something about passenger cars falling down the river, in the real world the first thing falling down river are the trucks that hold the wheels due to they are not attached to the wagon frame they just spin freely at the tracks curve and hold the train weight.
