I just want to take a moment to say thank you for the effort you put into these videos, especially adding the information. It's a real treat and something we would never get to see otherwise.

How is it that you were able to keep driving even with snow and ice packed on the windshield?

I had a little slit I could still see through, when that was gone as well, I stopped the first time to get the snow off so I could see more :)

Utterly gorgeous, almost felt like I was looking at a model railway. Amazing work, I even recognised a few stations!

It’s trippy how if you watch this for awhile and then pause it, it looks like the tracks are moving away from you.

What height of snow is too high to go through? It seems even when not going fast, the train doesn’t sense the drifts at all. Also, how do the wheels not slip?
@AndersMagrioteli3 күн бұрын
I read that this stretch has some 200 tunnels in all. The longest one is 10,030 meters. That is a very long tunnel. The landscape is dramatic and when daylight arrived - it got more beautiful the higher the altitude. Video quality was superb, by the way.

What a journey. How did they ever manage to dig all those tunnels? Is there a figure of how many miles of tunnels there are on the Norway rail lines? It must be staggering.

I'm semi-retired and now volunteering as a coach driver for OAPs in Australia. I wish I could volunteer as a train driver! Your vids are a godsend - a chicken soup for the soul! And I particularly enjoy the 'Norway In A Nutshell' runs, as I did it as my friends' 2009 wedding gift to their guests in Bergen, and again on the long way home! Kudos to RailCowGirl, you are wonderful!

The locomotive you're operating looks very similar to the abb alp-46, an electric passenger locomotive used here in the united states (more specifically New Jersey).
@RailCowGirl6 күн бұрын
Yes, that is because the alp-46 was built by Bombardier in Germany and is based on the German Class 101. Later Bombardier produced the TRAXX series of locomotives where the one I was operating is a TRAXX F140 AC2 locomotive designated BR185.

Hello railcow! I’m a freight conductor for the railroad CSX in the USA, I had a quick question. What does a typical crew set up look like for freight trains?
@RailCowGirl12 күн бұрын
one engineer on the train, nothing more. No conductor.
@virtual.supertrucker249712 күн бұрын
@ interesting, here have crews of two or three depending on the train. So I assume the majority of all the cars are usually coupled together by a switcher crew before you get on the locomotive
@RailCowGirl12 күн бұрын
@@virtual.supertrucker2497 On a normal day it would go like this: I go and get the locomotive, move it into position to couple on the cars myself. Then the shunting conductor comes down to be the lookout, then I push the cars into the terminal. The train is then loaded, when loading is done I head off. half way I will be swapped out with another engineer. then he/she/they operate the train to its destination. Where the engineer will decouple, go around, the shunting conductor comes down and being the lookout, and they push the train into the terminal for unloading. After that the loco is usually decoupled and parked on another track or transported to maintenance.
