(This is a modified version of “Train Enthusiast’s Video Diary 2024-07-27 Pichi Richi Railway”; made to include music in the absence of sound in the video shots taken with a drone.)
On Saturday, 27th of July 2024, along with fellow train enthusiasts and tourists, we joined in with the train activities of Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society Inc. (PRRPSI), South Australia (SA).
PRRPSI were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the society’s first train running.
This video contains snippets of a part of the celebration involving a train hauled by steam locomotive CR NM25 from Port Augusta (SA) to Woolshed Flat (SA), where it was joined to a train hauled by steam engine SAR Yx 141 which had arrived from Quorn (SA). The very long, double headed train then proceeded to Quorn.
While the combined train was full of passengers, there appeared to be just as many on the adjacent road eager to get a view of the train and to video/photograph it as its steam engines worked hard to haul it to its destination.
At the end of the train journey, I have included brief shots of two steam traction engines and a steam powered truck that were on display in the railway yard.
