You are correct, Harrogate train station is a long one, but you stopped just about where every other train does! Good job

The line I grew up riding, I know it like the back of my hand. A very good representation of the driving technique for the route. One small correction -Bramhope Tunnel is 2 miles 241 yards. It’s a shame TS can’t produce the terrible track quality and vibration through it!

Excellent video and commentary. For several years I did a daily commute from Knaresborough to Leeds, so it was quite a memory trip on the "Pain Train". I certainly loathed the nodding donkeys. However they were often paired with a class 153 (Bubble Car) which was far more pleasant, and I used it as often as I could. On one occasion one nodding donkey got stuck on the sharp curve at Crimple Junction. Between Harrogate and Leeds there has been resignalling, eliminating Rigton and Horsforth boxes. The model shows the new layout at Horsforth, but Rigton box was shown in its old form, although as I remember, the whole project was commissioned at almost the same time. Before that, trains were commonly stuck outside Bramhope Tunnel, and the guard would come on to the PA and say, "Regular users of this line will know that the signalling is rather old-fashioned, and we have to wait for a train to clear Rigton Signal Box." As for Harrogate Station, the trains like Class 142 tended to stop about 50 metres before your stopping point. In the model, the main part of the station is not modelled - it is a hideous tower block of offices above the station concourse. I could see the door to the concourse. There is an older building that is represented by the noble looking station house. This is also office accommodation that is not used by passengers. The real thing is rather scruffy and unpleasant. At the York end, the semaphores are now mounted on a modern gantry - I suspect the old one was falling apart. The distant signal for Knaresborough (just beyond Belmont Crossing) is fixed, so when you do a scenario, be prepared for the home before the viaduct to be on, although most of the time, it was set to clear. It depended on which signalman was on duty. When the trains were up the spout, he would address the passengers on the station from the window of the box, using a megaphone. Beyond the tunnel, the track goes single, at the point where the Boroughbridge Line diverged. Many thanks.

Loved the video. When i was a kid, when going into harrogate, we d go over the tracks (from the Victoria car park on your right), and i remember being about the same distance from the trains if any were stopped at the platform, as you were in the video. The gap goes into the station, and out to the carpark/bus station so you were pretty much spot on if i remember correctly. The realism of these trains is unbelievable, the sound is exactly as i remember it!

With regard to Harrogate P1, the main entrance to the station is actually the building structure right at the Leeds end of the platform. In real life there is a tower block on top of it and the canopy extends all the way to the modern footbridge - there used to be an older open footbridge at the Leeds end by the entrance. Look at photos on Google or Flickr and you’ll see what I mean.

Another great route learning guide. The Pacerbus is especially bumpy between Knaresborough and Cattal due to the bumpyness of the tracks. Just a heads up, it 's not all Pacers on The Harrogate Loop, there is a mixture of class 150's, 153's, 155's and the occasional class 158 makes the odd appearance as well.

Some trains are formed from a mixture of one or two Pacer coaches and one or two of the more modern 153, 155 or 158. It's interesting watching the train going over Knaresborough viaduct (eg from the castle) to see how many passengers choose the modern coaches and how few (if they have a choice) opt for the Pacer. I think that says it all.

I am a regular passenger on this route, so I hope I can help. When you come to a stop at Harrogate station you want to stop just right before the overheard bridge. The rest of the stations you need to be aiming right at the end of the platform apart from Harrogate due to the long platform. This is to accommodate the daily HST east coast return to London Kings Cross. Great video love to see my local line on KZbin at last.

Great video so far (I've skipped to the end so I can see York)! I really like this route in TS not only because it looks really nice and I know the route well in real life because I live in York. Great to hear you pronounced Poppleton correctly! The stopping point there was spot on btw. One thing to note (with the route) is that at 1:13:21 the speed limit actually stays at 30mph until you reach the platform, but that's all. Again, great video :)

Very nice drive PTG! Particularly good to see such a professional drive of my local line. Stopping at Harrogate was correct. Drivers usually stop so that the train is entirely visible from the concourse on both platforms no matter if the train is 2, 3, 4 or 5 cars. Braking for some stations was a little late in comparison to the real life drivers but overall, another excellent drive! :)
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I guess the differing physics between real life vs TS made a difference to braking points?
@joshbridge1234
@joshbridge1234 6 жыл бұрын
I suspect that may be a factor yes. On approach to Starbeck for example, power is usually cut at around 41:50 or even earlier (depends on the driver), they then allow the train to coast for a bit before they begin to fan the brakes. Another case of: 'if you stood on either platforms at Starbeck station or rode on a Harrogate loop service in real life then you would get a sense of it' I guess. I have a few videos on this line on my channel if you want to take a look at those to gauge what goes on. Not plugging, just a friendly suggestion! ;) P.S The amount of pacers was nuts! Nowadays, we have 170s and sprinters tend to be more prominent

At Green Hammerton, the signal box is interesting. The frame is on the platform, under the canopy and behind a wooden screen. The block instruments are in a room in the station building just behind the frame.

Great Vid Loved the route and the reason the distants are "On" is that they also do that in real life as the single line section means most of the time the signaller can't get all the signals as trains cross, also the distant before cattal was not off because of the crossings as they are all interlocked.

I once took this journey in the York - Leeds direction. The destination board at York showed Burley Park, so that passengers for Leeds would not use the train but use the express instead. I expect they would do a similar thing at Leeds, i.e. not display York.

Harrogate will have a direct route to London's Kings Cross in the near future, by the end of 2019, I think six times a day. LNER being the operator for it. Headingley is famous for its cricket ground, obviously.

Harrogate of course now part of the London and North Eastern Railway extension between London Kings Cross and Leeds. Some of the latter route's trains that go to Harrogate are two hourly. I would imagine journey time between Leeds and Harrogate, non stop that is, around half an hour making a total journey time between London and Harrogate of around two hours forty minutes.

The black rectangle sign with the white 'S' is the stop sign for all units.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 6 жыл бұрын
Anglo Saxon sometimes in Train Simulator, the route builder only remembers to put the S sign in and not the rest of the stop markers. At some of these stations, the position of the S sign was counterintuitive as the stopping point for a train this short, as it was far away from the station entrance.
@anglosaxon5874
@anglosaxon5874 6 жыл бұрын
Just telling you how it is as I am a train driver myself. Although I agree some positioning leaves a lot to be desired, but happens in real life too!
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 6 жыл бұрын
Anglo Saxon Haha, I understand! There are some routes in TS where I know there are stop markers for shorter trains in real life, but they are missing in TS. That's why sometimes I don't stop at the S but try to work out what I think is the best stopping position. I'll bear that in mind though! Thanks! :)

I would like to congratulate you on actually making the Pacer enjoyable :p I was wondering if you could do a Eurostar video between Ebbsfleet International and London St. Pancras International because apparently, the Eurostar train has been made (sadly not the rest of HS1) and I have seen a fairly lagged video of the aforementioned route being done. I think it would be pretty cool to see that done on a channel as amazing and fairly lagless (:p) as yours!

Yes. That is the quicker route. In fact the via-Harrogate trains are not shown as going to Leeds or York: the departure screens at Leeds and York say "Poppleton" (last station before York) or "Burley Park" (last station before Leeds) to avoid passengers getting a via-Harrogate train by mistake.

Hello PTGRail. For the past year i have watched your vids and you do a fantastic job at there "Route Learning" videos. They are really enjoyable and quite helpful too. However if its possible i have a few route suggestions. Apart from "Bucuresti-Ploiesti" that i suggested in the comments of a previous video, i would also like to see you do videos on NS Routes or OBB Routes (generally speaking made by RSSLO). Keep the great work up, only managed to subscribe recently tho (and im kinda sorry for that given the fact that i been watching since last year :( but yeah). Here are the links, in case you need them: www.treinpunt.nl/forum/downloads/?sa=list;id=1108 (Dutch routes) www.rsslo.com/ (Austrian, German, Italian and Slovene routes and rolling stock) www.train-motion.com/product-category/ts-2018/routes/ (Romanian route Bucuresti-Ploiesti, for now only released up to Peris, soon to be extended to Ploiesti if a update comes out for it) The trains that would fit the routes the best can be found at ChrisTrains (NL) and TrainSimRomania. Thanks in advance and keep up the good content! Greetings from RO :)
