So which do you prefer? Train Simulator Classic or Train Sim World?
@jayo12124 жыл бұрын
Well, TSW has no steam engines yet, so I'd have to go with... Trainz!
@vehicleswithjacob4 жыл бұрын
I'd go with Train simulator, because there's steam trains, there's more routes and trains and in some ways it's more realistic. I do have both games, but I might switch back to TSW2 When they've added more rail vehicles and routes.
@kevint17194 жыл бұрын
It's frustrating. TS has better gameplay despite its age and has DLC routes I've actually commuted to work on, which are great fun to drive. A friend of mine hasd actually driven trains on one of them. TSW is limited in terms of DLC and the gameplay is not so great - when the Raildriver peripheral is properly supported, that will help, but it is so much nicer to look at. I agree with you, they should phase out TS and get the third parties working with TSW. I don't see why TSW couldn't offer a better balance between easy and harcdcore sim options like many driving games and flight simulators do.

Im am train conductor since 1999. Until 1 year ago when for medical reasons i went to pension. But i love my job so badly that i find a little refuge in this simulators....among others. In my humble opinion as realism and and all steps Train Simulator World (dont be surprised ) is much closer by the simple fact that you can manually switch/contact/delay/deploy everything. Still need to work on wagons numbers versus engine traction but its ok. Train Simulator 20XX is more like a steady, arcade game. Don't hate me fans. Here it is why: When your Locomotive Engineer (freights transporter) 60....70% of your job is, how i was saying on top, to do actually manually work. Squeduals, plane. don't stay to long on a track, calculation. On the other hand a train conductor (passenger transportation) is a little more relaxing, and once you hit cabin, only in extreme cases you gonna leave it (or header switching). Again im talking only about much closer approach to reality. Now this is my opinion, i hope nobody gonna be upset about my opinion and i am ready to be agree with your arguments. Have a nice day and keep on track.

5:04 my direct message to Dovetail games would be STOP TRICKING PEOPLE. The new "name" makes people think it's brand new and they should buy it! Instead there's barely any change. On the other hand, TSW is the "real new" one and is constantly being updated.
@ericmooney57403 жыл бұрын
That's kind of true people could be tricked if you never bought the yearly released train simulator before you might expect it to be brand new and top of the line with features that surpass tsw. However if you bought train simulator before or even after the release of tsw with each yearly update you get that update free every year as well so each game does get updated. For example a few years ago train simulator updated from 32 bit version to 64 for the better directx lighting while still giving you the option of which you would rather play at start up.

The one problem Dovetail have with TS classic is that players have poured so much money and time into the game that they literally will not accept the fact it’s an ancient game that needs to be moved on from. I don’t think it should be completely abandoned though, there are so many 3rd party devs that will definitely keep the game alive. TSW2 could really become something if Dovetail focused their entire team on it. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for both these games.

No? TSC should not be left like this. They need to optimise the game atleast, because what let's just say K-Trains here in Czechia does is amazing. The models are super realistic even though the simulator limits it, but they are managing to still make it really realistic. It is pissing me off to see people say this..
@fabiosarts3 жыл бұрын
The only negative side about the classic train simulator is, there's just too few things you can do in the cockpit, besides accelerate and brake and some basic security system, where tsw is fairly more complete. Audio isn't too good either, but they did it better on TSW2
@GreenIcing13 жыл бұрын
The amount you can do in the “cockpit” (in trains, it’s normally called the cab) depends on who makes the train. While most of Dovetail’s trains don’t have much other than the accelerator and the brake, third party developers such as Armstrong Powerhouse include much more detail and realistic sounds.

I kind of do and don’t. I can only speak for the American railroad side of things, but it still doesn’t get physics exactly right especially compared to Run 8. As someone who's only just recently really gotten into TSW, I've never felt like this game wasn't as much of a simulator as others. I think it does a good job at what it does. I'm really enjoying it a lot. The DLC prices are pretty crazy imo, but I'm beginning to understand why, as they're full on replicas of routes/trains. The main thing I wanna see come to the game is livery creation sharing. Some people are wizards with the livery editor. I'd like to download some other player's liveries.
@TracksideIsaiah4 жыл бұрын
I think the main differences between the 2 is that railworks(ts), you can make your own routes and make custom content but the graphics are nothing compared to tsw and tsw2, Railworks is simple, and so is tsw.

The only thing that's a bit hard is route building; it can take ages to do and takes lots of practice. You're sadly not able to change the livery of trains in TS, but I hope they add an easy way to do so in a future update without game files blah blah blah. In my opinion Train Simulator is better. All they need is a route by Lake Okeechobee, FL

I'm a original Railworks owner and have owned every years version since. I also own TSW2. (yes, I'm ancient. I've owned even older trainsim games) Personally I like TSW2 better simply because it runs so much smoother and the freedom of walking around does add some nice flavor. The old engine needs an extreme update and fixing but all the old DLC is holding it back. Also after many many years of TS it's like a breath of fresh air for me. TL;DR: TSW2 my current fav.

Agreed, either of these titles having VR support would be incredible, seems Dovetail games has no interest in VR, that would require a LOT of work to make these VR compatible, Dovetail seems to hate putting too much work into their titles, they pump them out and collect the cash, it's all they seem to care about. Great video, love the the info in a short amount of time! :)
@patrickhall68313 жыл бұрын
Well I want disagree about them collecting cash. But a your already see how complex the train sim is on pc and console putting all of that into a vr game would take extraordinary amounts of storage and time it would take years to develop. There's a reason why we don't see many if at all any vr sim games especially when it come to ones like trains, semis,cars,bus driving etc. The games are just that big.

The issue with letting Train Simulator classic go is that Train Sim World is not currently in a position to replace it. There are so many features and add ons built for the older train simulator (not to mention community scenarios and routes in the steam workshop) that letting it go at this point would almost certainly be too large a hit to Dovetail Games. Maybe in the future once Train Sim World is on the same level that Train Simulator Classic is but definitely not right now (recognizing that this comment comes a year and a bit after the videos positing)

Honestly, I’d say Train Simulator is superior to TSW... here’s why 1. TSW has a frustrating lack of content. 2. TSW absolutely BLOWS TS out of the water with the graphical quality, and is USUALLY more realistic... the reason I still chose TS over TSW in realism is because of audio. Stock, both games have pretty trash audio. But there are endless mods for TS, considering it’s been out much longer. This is probably the biggest selling point for me. 3. Customization, you can make your own trains and routes. 4. Going back to audio, TSW REUSES a lot of its audio, which is quite disappointing. I’ve been playing TS/Railworks ever since it came out, and it uses a lot of the same sounds as well, expect it has a lot more to offer and the sounds do vary, for example the CSX GP40-2 has a different sounds than the CSX AC6000CW or CSX Dash-8, which is something TSW doesn’t do. Summary: TSW is pretty mediocre in general, which lets TS rise to the top with its numerous amounts of content, better audio (with mods), customization, and more diversity in audio stock... thanks for reading! (This is also my opinion, and in no way, shape, or form is this meant to discourage readers or offend anyone)

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on telling Dovetail to let train simulator classic go. There is huge third party support off of steam, with a payware and freeware add-ons, which is currently not possible in tsw, as there is no way to get a third party train or route into the game, the best people can do at the moment is liveries. And, even if they do add a way to share trains and routes, they can never replace the huge catalogue that train sim classic has, both on and off steam.

I prefer TS "Classic". And no those Dev's better not let this game go, I don't care what your opinion is. TO let this game go would be like telling the thousands of people who pay it: your time & money invested is worthless to us". Cant imagine why TSW has 30 DLC, and 15 3rd party mods, while TS22 has thousands of both. I personally have 60 paid DLC, & hundreds more 3rd party, I'm not gonna take kindly to those hundreds of dollars go wayside because of you new-age kids wanting the next best thing.

Train Sim World is pretty incredible. This may come across as minor but for the American locos I do wish there were better sounds by default

Its not minor.. its major and i agree.

Still holds true in 2024. I recently purchased a dlc for train simulator classic. Still enjoyed it despite the graphics being worse than tsw.
@masarsyarrahmansetiawan51323 жыл бұрын
I think why ts classic is still running because it's the place for dtg to test dlc's that would eventually come to tsw. Just look at all of tsw dlc which already available in ts classic way beyond.

Train simulator id still running due to the amount of creators for third part content and more and more people coming to the simulator because tsw 2 is not a simulator

Honestly the only reason I want to play this game is because I'm able to get off my chair and do stuff with the train. Maybe uncouple wagons and such. I don't feel like I'm glued to the chair. I feel immersed. Just like with bus simulator 18 for example. It's fun. It's entertaining to walk around your vehicle and do stuff with it.

Thanks for this video. I had not heard about “TrackIR” before. Such a neat product. Maybe you could add a note about that in the video description? I wasn’t sure exactly what you were saying initially.

I will truly be happy if DOVETAIL would allow TRAIN SIM WORLD to use its RailDriver USB Desktop Cab Controller making it compatible with TRAIN SIM WORLD. Sim world gets boring when using the remote. But the desktop controller would makes Sim World more authentic to play. Dovetail would gain a bigger bang for their buck if they would allow the desktop controller to be compatible with Train Sim world. As you mention they are both the same company but different departments. HERE IS A THOUGHT, ( TEAM ) MEANING Together everyone achieves more.

Hello blu!! I have been following your channel for a while and I really like your videos on trains. I'm a avid train sim user from back 2009 I guess... Thanks for making the videos I really enjoyed it... Also I would like to ask if u could do review or play through some UNION PACIFIC stuff like from DTM and Smokebox that would be awesome.... And once again thanks for entertaining us

02:40 Yes, it can get annoying when your penalised and lose points for been on time at stations and been told you're late even when you're actually a little early. Unlike TSW2 from I've seen, in TS you cannot cross a red light even at the station. The game simply stops you right there and ends. It's best to make a save point regularly just in case you break too and miss a station going through a red light or your train for some reason doesn't go onto the next track when it was suppose to and derails or collides with another train. Someday, I'll get TSW. I'd bought TS back in 2012 but not played much until recently now I have a better PC. Most retail disk versions of TS2012 where corrupt versions too I remember. Once activated you'd be notified and given the digital version for free as compensation. Strange they didn't do a recall or stop making a corrupt disk version. Not everyone had a good internet connection. I don't think TS will go anywhere soon. There are so many routes, even new ones are still been made. It has all the modding features and creation tools TSW2 doesn't have and a larger community. TSW2 will eventually take over once more routes in countries other than the UK, EU and US are added and they start supporting more creation tools. Most people new to the Simulator will likely go for TSW2 due to the improved graphics and looking better. Just remember it's a Simulator than a game. Either way, whether you see it as a simulator or a video game (competitive or for achievements), steam are always having 50% sales on these two so you could get both if you were to wait. The same with many routes getting sales almost every 2 months.

What if I don't really care about all the nitty gritty details of how to run a train, and I just want to make it go easily, and then enjoy the ride? and look at the scenery and the pretty train from the outside. Do any of these games do that?

I've tried to get back into Railworks (Train Sim Classic) about a year ago and, for some reason after a few minutes I've had a memory error happen, this has also been an issue for many other people even the ones who have a high-end gaming PC like myself which lead to people giving Train Sim classic a bad review and not worth the money but, Railwaorks has had it's ,moments when it came to moding the game a little, aside from that Train Sim World series is more forgiving, seems Railworks issues regarding it's game engine issues won't be fixed anytime soon

I have trains sim world, and train sim world 2 for PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X.. I have to say I love the amount you can do on this game and the amount of DLCs that comes with it. That being said and surprising to myself the game runs the most smooth on PS4 over the rest. I just wish dovetail would add the train simulator DLCs to console or even added to TSW2 like the Rockies Route and the Steam. Apparently a release is coming soon to bring steam and the horseshoe curve to TSW2 but I can't find if this will be strictly PC or applicable to all platforms. You definitely get more with the PC versions.

All of that and you didn't mention whether or not either game has a career mode, or even what the game is about (other than simply driving trains).

Not really a career mode in either.. except for earning hold stars in TS which does mean anything.. no progression system

Train Sim World is a better hands on. You also have the ability to move around the station and track are or even walk along the entire railroad. The trains are on a schedule and will approach on a 24hr. schedule daily.

Looking for the best most realistic train physics and the never ending open sandbox world, try Run8. Being able to run a road train that I build from one yard to another, flat switch or that consist over a hump, build a local then work industries with no scenery bringing it to and end is the ultimate in Railroad simulation.
