Lorraine Moller here. Thanks for your comments. I did train twice a day about 5 days a week and once on my long run days. It was an easy way to build the miles if you have the time. Check out our Facebook page for Running Wizard - Lydiard training all the way!

In 70s, there were lot of men who ran 10000m under 28 minutes in Finland and they trained according to the Lydiard method. Today, Finnish men can't run under 29 minutes and there seems to be no training philosophy any longer.

Slow jogging has its limits in improvement. Once you’ve built your base phase you need faster training in intervals at race pace at your best 10,000m pace, 5000m pace, 1500m pace & 800m pace. Multipace interval training as adopted by Sebastian Coe greatest 800m & 1500m of all time, Said Aouita the 5000m Olympic champion of 84, only man to break 1:44 for 800m, 3:30 for 1500, 13 mins for 5000m and 28 mins for 10k. Said Aouita was a big multi pace interval low mileage quality runner. The greatest miler 1500m man EL G from Morocco 🇲🇦 was a multiple pace interval trained. LASTLY the best 2 distance runners Kipchoge and Bekele came from a fast 1500m and 5,000m background with again multiple pace intervals. Slow jogging is a base for novice athletes only. Slow jogging makes slow runners.

@@APBCTechnique Lydiard didn't just advocate slow jogging. It appeared that way because the seperate jogging group he started to help heart patients adopted that philosophy for simply better health. Jogging at 50-60% heartrate reserve etc. Modern science shows us most of the 100mile base weeks included 65-75% of H.R.Reserve with 1 to 2 runs (30-60min) of "3/4 Effort" which was Sub threshold or 75-80% Heartrate Reserve. This was the 10wk Base Phase the Pyramid was then Built up narrower...as it gets "faster/intensity increases slightly notch by notch to peak. Its based on the philosophy that ATLEAST 10hrs a wk a wk are run in the base phase by my math. Looking at duration curves we can see 12hrs @11kmh for an average Athletes is potentially enough to run a sub 3hr marathon for example based on duration & duration pace. Floris Guermon interviews a young marathoner on this topic. He's only 23 and runs a 2:28 Marathon. Approx 18hrs a wk inc lots of double day runs all at @4:50-5min/km off "virtually" no speedwork. Perhaps 2-3% by volume overall. Cheers :)

@@APBCTechnique Nobody said an athlete has to stick ONLY to slow jogging. This is a misconception about the Lydiard system. I suggest you to read "Running the Lydiard Way" and "Run to the top" to find exactly what you wrote in your comment 👍

@@mattiabianuccitrainer many coaches have proved liddiard is old hat and dead I suggest you look at Peter Coe’s Books 📚 Peter Snell took up running at 17 and was Olympic champion at 21. He would of made the Olympics on any training system he was totally talented, nothing to do with Liddiard

@@APBCTechnique If Lydiard is so old hat, then why do so many do a basic version of it? Not only do you not understand what you are criticizing, but you can't even spell Lydiard correctly.

@@APBCTechnique snell had good natural speed yes...but he lacked the Endurance / Stamina needed. Arthur knew he was gunna excel. Im pretty sure 1040miles in 10wk base phase inc a 22mile undulating course Every wkend...had something to do with that season. His pulse lowered about 24bpm with Arthur's principals -from 60 to 36bpm. Base Phase they all ran together until it good time to be Specific.

Here from Spain: I'm improving my performance in marathon since I follow Lydiard phylosophy (from 2:42 to 2:38). I strongly recommend the book "Healthy intelligent training", in my opinion, the book that better explains Lydiard system.

I think a lot of it is that Lydiard was a victim of telephone, and as simple as it was, a lot of people didn't understand what he was suggesting. It helps as well that the author of Highly Intelligent Training was dealing with mortals instead of elite athletes.
