As an Norwegian from the western coast of Norway, the most realistic thing you could do next is to create more small towns in the fjords around the map, and make them connect with ferries and small roads. I also would love to see more small houses in the mountain side. Take a look of Bergen or other parts of Norway! I love this map!

36:38 - The building right up to the little inlet with the bridge is obviously a legacy boating club. They own this inlet, because they originally build it and they resisted any effort of local politicians to close it off, even for the purposes of erosion protection of the harbour. This is why the main key wall has this wierd hole in it. The clever local politicians, however, made use of a national exception in the law to build the bridge that was deemed "critical infrastructure" as road feight access to the rail yard. So now the boating club owns an inlet they can't sail out of as the bridge is NOT a movable bridge. But instead of giving up in the face of adversity, the boating club persists, even expanded by adding a repair shop for small crafts, specialized on foldable masts - as this is what all members are forced to use on their boats since the bridge was build in the 70s.

36:34 The story to explain why that little inlet next to the railyard is there could be the following: There used to be an island where the railyard sits now, and a connection to the mainland was built to make space for the train line. During that process a fish processing plant wanted to keep its direct access to the sea, leading to the inlet being built. When fishing vessels quickly became bigger, they didn’t fit anymore, the factory was relocated, and the inlet closed off with a bridge to allow for freight traffic to the railyard. Additionally, it now can be used as a cooling water reservoir for the adjacent industry.
@truefunghi93515 ай бұрын
I was thinking it might now be a little research project of the local Haugen marine research institute (just to cater the Norway vibe). Since the fishery industry is out, it is completely unused and untouched now. Perfect conditions to observe natural processes in industry vicinity and heavy noise and water pollution.
@anonimus12305 ай бұрын
I was thinking it can be a touristical submarine diving point. I know it's a bit unrealistic, but the bridge is so low that a boat can't fit through. or there's can be a geological research.
@plini-xi3ux5 ай бұрын
I was thinking it could be remanents from an old shipyard that used to build large-ish fishing boats in a dry dock type of situation. But changing fishing conditions, new methods, greater competition etc. put them out of business.

Nice episode! Just a little FYI from a RL Locomotive Engineer... your cargo line down to the port from the passenger station.. 100kph? Thats a bit much, I'd aim for a max of 50kph! Also looks nicer when the trains arent breezing through there :) The Railyard probably should have around 30kph max with the end of track there.

Out of all your series, this is the one I love the most, it is so amazing to see you build not just with challenging terrain, but in a style not many CS2 youtubers are doing. I really hope in the future you expand out from this little bay and perhaps instead of building any major sprawling metropolis you stick to this theme of small villages with dense, old European design. Perhaps along the river near the starting tile, you could build an old market or mill town and then surround it with tons of farm land. Then you could more easily justify the tram you are thinking about putting in by having it bouncing between Fjordholm and whatever the market town would be called (perhaps Mølleby? which is just Mill Town in Danish lol).

The inlet in the new area could be seen as a dry dock, commonly found in harbors ; they are areas that can be emptied from the water for maintenance operation on the ships hulls ; a few more details could make the bridge appear as one of those opening ones
@Tobiassaufus5 ай бұрын
I would remove the cantenaries inside the offloading area, they would be in the way regardless of how you handle the containers and create unneccesarry dangerous situations. The fright trains in the game are diesel anyways, so they couldnt even use them (i would make the entire section passenger train station to cargo harbor without cantenaries). Also a crane would be pretty neat here
@MozzaBurger884 ай бұрын
Yeah, IRL freight locomotives will either be diesel or electrical with "last-mile" diesel generator or batteries or freight cars will get shunted by some diesel engine from a shunting yard at the end of the electrified parts (before the tunnel for instance). You'll never have catenaries in a port environment like that for obvious safety reasons.

@tommeakin17325 ай бұрын
Nobody asked for this lol, but on the realism of pipes under roads: CPP is wrong when he's said that "pipes also belong under highways". The reason they're often put under roads in built up areas is because you're going to need to fix pipes when they break, and it's a lot easier to close a road for a few days in a place where there's lots of road redundancy than it is to need to get to those big pipes under buildings. Broadly speaking, the higher up the road hierarchy you go, the less you want to close that road. When it comes to roads that link towns (not many of such roads, high speed, few connections) you want them to open at all times; and there is no reason to put pipes right under them - you can just put them to the side (unless a crossing is needed for some reason).
@plini-xi3ux5 ай бұрын

@deetoher5 ай бұрын
If you want some "back story" lore, then the majority of the tunnel that currently has buildings over it was built using cut and cover and the buildings are more recent. The bit away from the town was a more usual tunnel. I would also lower the speed limit on the two-way narrow track for a few reasons, but primarily the grade it is on would make trains going faster look strange and the fact that it has an at grade crossing near the port. It is a relatively short bit of track, so it shouldn't cause congestion.

At 36:38 it kinda looks like a drydock for small ships the town used for fishing or trading, and the railyard it was built initially as an easier way to bring in wood for ship construction. Later, due to not being used much for shipbuilding anymore, it could be bought by a fishery nextdoor and along whatever they catch out at sea they have a small area to grow smaller fish in. The floodgate the shipbuilders used would likely be underneath the new bridge, but it hasn't seen much use either.

Hi, I watched so many of your videos within the last 24 hours! Here are a few suggestions: 1) slow down the train speed in the city to 50 (especially behind the houses and on the little bridge) 2) do you want to develop a public beach on one of the fjords? Maybe a rocky one, not really a tropical sand one. Generally I think that having more landmarks would fit really well. Also, expanding onto different fjords with new neighborhoods could be the reason to get a tram 3) While there are A LOT of trees, id like to see more actual green spaces - small parks squeezed in betweeen buildings, a piece of grass with a footpath and flowers. In the previous video, there was a person walking a dog on the water front promenade which was all concrete and it felt so wrong 😅
