Hey jaw tooth glad to see new locations for train watching. That dragging strap is why railfans should stay back when watching. Can really hurt someone. Glad to see lots of train action. Rail bent over ties shows how they would stop trains during civil war by heating rail so it bend out of shape so can't be used. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋‍♀️

"Really hurt" = kill -- if one of those gets tangled around you and you get dragged along by the train, there's a good chance you'll be dead before you can get free, especially with a faster-moving train. The metal banding that's often used to secure loads can also be pretty sharp.

You had a productive railfanning day in Dalton, Georgia on 8 August 2024, Jaw Tooth! Where were all those empty auto racks going? The first train in this video was a full auto rack train and the last train was a Norfolk Southern train with a lot of auto racks on it. Thank you for taking us inside the Dalton depot. Drayton from Delay In Block Productions has done live KZbin streams from this location, but he has not gone into the depot when he does his live streams. Also, thank you for taking us on the other side of the tracks at the road crossing. It was nice to see the depot from that side of thetracks. (Post 20 August 2024 at 1530 CDT.)

It was reported that in in 2020 it was bought by a local Dalton resident who was attempting to revamp the building and make it an upscale burger restaurant.

More than 85 percent of the carpets sold in the United States, and around 45 percent of the residential and commercial carpets found worldwide, are made within a 65-mile radius of Dalton.
@beeble2003
@beeble2003 3 ай бұрын
That seems massively unlikely and doesn't match any figures I can find, which say that the entire USA accounts for only 4% of world carpet exports, but 20% of world imports. That's by value, rather than volume, but production costs in the US are surely higher than in the world's biggest-exporting countries (China, India and Turkey) so going by value will overstate US exports. By volume, North America seems to be about 20% of world production.

With the 5 track crossing and the diamond at a gentle angle it is similar to the one at Muncie IN you have shown in the past. It wouldn't be surprising if there were two more tracks at the Crossing which would have been for the passenger platforms. The first CSX train with the mixed Freight was powered by the same set you saw at Coffeys Cliff note the WM fireball on the trailing unit. A very nice restoration on the Depot add no doubt the passenger car will look Tip Top in the near future. As they refer to Dalton as the Carpeting capital it also reflects a major change from a century ago when much of the production was in the Northeast part of America. Curiosity prevailed on the rock train a the reporting marks on the hopper cars is assigned to Georgia Power and in an older Trains magazine that limestone is apparently destined for power plants for use in their exhaust scrubbers. Hopefully your dental issues can be resolved soon so that proper healing can take place. Combined with that heat and humidity don't knock yourself out. Maybe you can bring back some carpeting seconds for the cats to scratch on

Brian, for those first two trains the growling sound of the locos really came through. I’m guessing that the wall of the porch captured, reflected and amplified the sound. The angle of the roof overhang might have aimed the sound straight down at you. For other trains I didn’t notice the same effect but think that’s because the locos didn’t seem to be working all that hard.

Welcome to Georgia. Going south, the CSX line runs to Cartersville, there's a yard there and the line also branches north east, going to Etowah Tennessee. Continuing south, you come to Kennesaw. Ga where the Civil War locomotive "The General" is housed in a small museum, next to the original rail road station, from the Civil War. I live a few miles from there. Just that little extra distance south, affords lots of great train watching. In Acworth, GA. the CSX line passes a great Cajun style restaurant, Henrys Louisiana Cafe. Well worth the trip. The NS line goes south through Dallas/Hiram, Ga. and south to Austell, Ga, There is a large intermodal yard there and the line joins the NS line from Atlanta to Birmingham, Alabama. In Austell, if you go east into Atlanta, you will come to both the CSX and NS major rail yards. On the other side of Atlanta, in Duluth, Ga. is the "National Railway Historical Society's" southern branch museum, very much well worth a visit. And, its all within in a few dozen miles of Dalton. I know that you are from Ohio, I am too, originally. In Georgia, "It Ain't hot" until it hits 98 degrees or there about. (92 is just a nice warm day and 95 is just beginning to get hot). ;-)

I wish I could have seen The General. I went to Ringgold and filmed a train there passing the station and I saw plaques about it. I haven't put that video together yet but I will soon.
