Where is the best place for photos in the morning? Also where at in the evening?

Good stuff! Does CN try to keep SD40s and Dash-8s separate on purpose? Also, it says in the description that the older power works better for hauling ore. Is that due to air brake compatibility, or something else?

Sorry for the late response! - CN uses the older EMDs on the range because they have the ability to handle a train with "straight air", which makes controlling heavy ore trains on the hill a lot less stressful. For the same reason, yes, they typically separate the SD40s and Dash 8s as the Dash 8s do not have straight air, so putting them with the 40s would render the function useless. To be totally honest, I don't even know why the GEs are up there lol

As much as it sucks too see the C40-8s and the C40-8W with the EMDs, there still great catches. The C40-8S are all being sold this month along with cowels so, while there still in the prime leading trains I’m happy too see them running up the ore trains.

@@PaulsDMVRailroadsandAviation CN 409 doesn't exist. It's DMIR 409. As far as I know it's just an SD40-3 in the same shell it had when it was a tunnel motor in previous life.

The CN 6000s are NOT SD40-2s. They are SD40-3s.

@@RunninEight an SD40-2U is still an SD40-2. But it's still wrong because they're also not SD40-2U. They aren't any SD40-2 variants.
@RunninEight5 жыл бұрын
Those are most definitely SD40-2Us (technically specified as SD40-2Q) and they are not SD40-2s or 40-3s. 40-2Us are rebuilt SD40s. Notice the bulkier cab as compared to the normal SD40-2s or even the IC SD40-3s. I appreciate that you’re trying to help but you’re wrong, these are certainly 40-2Us, not 40-3s. The 40-3s are mostly designated to the former IC and BLE power on the system.
