Santa was (and still is?) a very fast runner. He would go around the world in one night. Down chimneys and put presents under the tree. Eat the cookies on the plate. And be gone. And nobody would ever see Santa...

Amazing workout Sage! Sandi has excellent logic behind the approach I feel. Remember that you should be struggling on the speed workouts - they all provide great benefit for running at marathon pace when race day comes even when missing splits!
@tuesdaysrunner40387 жыл бұрын
+Padraig This is a long run in the video. He should not really be struggling. Except maybe a bit in the one minute surges. Better not to struggle though. Again, it is not a traditional speed workout. But Sandi wants him to run "fast" on tired legs.

Old video but it absolutely blows my mind how people can run like this. I've always just lightly ran for weight loss but only recently decided to start running for performance and my best mile for time was 8:30pace and I was DYING! I got a long way to go lol

Nice! Good luck on your marathon goals, fingers crossed here! I do am intrigued by the 'wanting to negative split' this run. If you are doing intervals like these, the goal of the recovery minute is to allow for the goal of the interval itself to be optimal? In other words, the perfect recovery allows for the perfect interval. Trying to negative split on top seems to impair the recovery possibility which results in the rising recovery heartrates, especially on such long workouts. Although I do understand the time available to get prepared is limited, and I feel this is more related to "longer term fatigue". If you didn't feel it today, you will feel it in the "long run" (the other "long run" I mean :-))

Sage? How do you increase knee drive? Of course lifting your heels high when running isn’t that great as increasing knee drive ..or is it good to focus on both? They say knee drive is everything so do you practice this when doing strides?

I was thinking about doing a long run today! But then I woke up near noon, and by 3PM I was feeling tired so took a 20 minute nap...that turned into a 4 hour nap. And now I'm watching this KZbin video...I think that Sage got my long run in though! This work thing sucks. My weekly mileage for this week? Not good. But good news. I can blame the two ultra runners who didn't reply to me asking if they wanted to go trail running. That is the real reason I skipped my long run... Got an idea. Maybe Sandi can go on my long run next time???

What is the purpose of 30/30s or 60/60s at just faster than marathon pace? I've heard of Billat's 30-30s to accumulate time at VO2 max with short recoveries but this is slower. Is it to practice surges competitors can make during a race?
@tuesdaysrunner40387 жыл бұрын
+Matthew To "run fast on tired legs". Would be too intense to maintain faster than marathon pace for ten miles.
@mtldragon98607 жыл бұрын
Tuesdays Runner Ok. It is doable to run >10miles in M pace. With sufficient base a 15 mile tempo is a common workout and I just paced a runner to run 20k 10s slower than M, 10k@M, then 10k progression from M to T.
