This was awesome Chris , I have a German shorthaired pointer that currently shed hunts, but I live in a Rural area and would love to have her help out some local hunters during their tracking. Thank you so much for this really easy to understand step-by-step look forward to continuing watching your page.

So it’s ok to feed the dog the raw liver after the find and gutting? I’ve never done that and it would be great!

I have a 6month old golden lab. I'm wanting to train for shed hunting and tracking. Should I focus on one category at a time or is it ok to work with him on both.

You can work on both for sure!

@@DogBoneJeremyMooredon’t want to bother you, but can a dog be trained to retrieve ducks and geese and track deer, and flush grouse.

This is awesome. I do LE and Sar tracking and i use similar principles when starting young dogs. At what point in foundation work do you decide to put them on actual deer? In a mantrailing, imminent death scent can really cause some weird behaviors tracking in cases of suicide and murder, even in very experienced k9s. At the first couple of real tracks, do game dogs also have a strange reaction to their 1st finds, or is that exclusive to human death? This is so interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

The dogs should see their first dead deer before a live track. I let them investigate at their own pace and even allow them to chew a bit. It should end up being a fun experience adding value to the job of tracking. As far as when to put them on a real track, I think it all depends. I like the idea of putting a less experienced dog on a short track where I know the deer is dead and close. Their attention span is short when they young and then as they mature and prove themselves, incrementally we make things more complex. Thanks for watching.

great video....but man i seen that stick of wounded deer scent and thought damn you could swap labels and ruin a man....your cheap deodorant would become death...
