I‘ve taught my conure to step up on my finger and being flipped over on to my other hand but he would NOT let go of my finger😅 Stepping on to the thumb makes a lot more sense, thank you for sharing❤

Ok, so I got ready to be patient and try this with Sophie very slowly and she just crawled in to my hand as I tried to only hold it over her, and looked up at me like 'yeah I saw the video too' now she loves being restrained and does it for fun 😂

You are such a natural teacher. Your videos are so helpful. I rescued a Quaker some months ago, and I have learnt a lot from you. These birds truly steal one's heart 💗

Thanks for the video! Here in Brazil it is so difficult to find this type of content and when we find it, it is not so well explained. Birds as pets is something relatively new here, until a few years ago the general consensus was that pet birds had to live in cages and now people have understood that they can also be pets.

Thank you for this video, and the reasons to train this restraint. Have frustrating time. New, very timid scared bird that was doing pretty good with gentling and training etc. Apt. complex decided to completely renovate and remodel apartments. The noise and chaos, like 8 days steady of removal and replacement of siding. 8 days of crew of 20 removing and pounding for new siding. (7 am - 9 pm) Completely put her back to day 1 when I brought her home. I got a small cage to put her in so we could get out of here at times. I had to force her which I didn't want to do, into the small cage, but once out of here she settled down some. While she's not yet over the biting etc. and still doesn't want to be touched, or even hand fed, I've been able to make sure she see's this smaller cage, and tell her "outside," and she'll sit still, let me pick her up and put her in that cage. Right now, this is still the only time she'll not bite or scream or struggle. She will hop into her bigger cage when we get home by herself. I have started with millet and clicker. So far so good. However, all the stress has made her hormonal. UGH! 4 months is to young! I'm hoping she doesn't try to lay an egg. She has a lot of the signs. Renovations, new windows, and molding, and a myriad of other things, so this isn't over with yet. She won't eat or play in her larger home cage, but will eat & play when we're out and she's in the small cage. And I'm trying, unsuccessfully, to get her to eat something green. No luck so far. Thank God for internet and excellent video's like yours. And there is no bird vets around where I live.

Meraviglioso! Ho già insegnato al mio Quaker Yoshi a stare con la schiena sulla mia mano, ma addestrarlo a questo tornerà sicuramente utile. Grazie!! 💚

Thank you once again. What are the reward treats ? Pls. Is it the same ea time. My male parrotlet only wants red pepper seeds as a treat but he will eat sesame seeds off of hamburger bun but not from treat lid...thank you I just want to give him healthy treats since he weighs 39 grams and is 7 and half yrs old and has fatty liver. Thank you so very much for your kindness doing videos.

If your concern is weight I would aim to decrease the amount of food in their meal and use that amount for training as well as increasing exercise. I primarily use small pellets for training with the occasional walnut piece as a jackpot reward. Lower fat options could be dried fruits/ veggies, or hearty grains like barley, rye, and buckwheat

Thank you so much for this! You do such a great job of breaking everything down. I have a 4 mos. old parrotlet that I want to do this with. He is an energy ball so I think it may take longer with him, but the good part of that is he usually wants to train! I would love to help make his vet visits as pleasant as they can be for him and the vet! Do you happen to have a video on nail trimming? I'm wondering how often and a good process for training this. I'm guessing if we get to the point I can hold him like this it would just be desensitizing him slowly to the nail file? I'm wondering how much to file his nails also.

For larger birds, should you start out with one or both hands? Amazing video as always!

My parrot is not afraid of my hand but he keeps thinking I want him to touch my hand with his beak, but I’m trying to queue him doing nothing. I don’t click and he becomes discouraged and doesn’t want to participate because I’m not communicating successfully what I’m wanting him to do. How do I treat “stillness” if he won’t stand still 😢 Update: I can now lightly squeeze around his back.He now understands the queue and will actually scuttle sideways into my cupped hand. 3 weeks ago I felt hopeless. Small steps and consistency!
