Hey Steve - 2 questions I'd like to get your take on (maybe in a future video with Jake H, if not here): 1 -What are some chest / push exercises you'd recommend for people working on or needing to improve their shoulder strength and stability? (In other words, what are some chest exercises that put the least about of strain on the shoulder?) And 2 - because you mentioned this in the video, could you say a little more about how important lat activation is in a pressing move? Thanks!

@FrenchSaladMac8 жыл бұрын
Do you lift Stephen ?
@Rev0UK18 жыл бұрын
i mean this in a constructive way....but, as someone who seems to take the mobility and injury prevention stuff seriously. It strikes me as odd that you would PURPOSEFULLY be internally rotating your shoulders on lateral raises. The old school 'pouring jugs of water' or 'pinkies up' que is one of the worst possible things you could be doing when it comes to shoulder health. It is something that needs to go away...should nto be getting taught to younger lifters. Think about it, you're intentionally training a motor pattern that ENCOURAGES internal rotation of the shoulder. Not good. Lateral raises work just fine without that internal rotation aspect. Takes a bit of tweaking but should still hit the medial delt plenty. In fact for most that extra 'squeeze' they feel from internally rotating on the movement is actually a pinching within the joint.
@swoldiernation8 жыл бұрын
Rev0UK1 it's done with a slow controls motion
@skriver12348 жыл бұрын
No you are totally wrong he is doing it to focus on the subraspinatus and there is nothing wrong with that
@Rev0UK18 жыл бұрын
I know that sounds good, to say its controlled...but still think about it. You're still repeatedly training a movement pattern that purposefully internally rotates the shoulder. Controlled or not its a mistake if you have any kind of shoulder issues or shoulder impingement (or want to avoid it). Especially when it's not even needed to put the medial delt in to a peak contraction.
@tomistenqvist13118 жыл бұрын
Good comment. That ''pouring the water'' tip really messed up my shoulders. Instead im now focusing on keeping my shoulders back and down and going straight to the sides. It works..
@Rev0UK18 жыл бұрын
glad to hear. Doing it with that sort of form will still hit the medial delt just fine and avoid any un-needed internal rotation. you can even slightly externally rotate during the motion and keep emphasis in the right place by leaning your torso forward a bit.
