The dogs in Schutzhund years ago were rewarded more for the dominate harder protection routine as opposed to the mechanical protection dogs . The dogs fighting drive was scored 1 thru 10 in hardness and fighting drive.

I took a clue from Ivan on how to play possession games within rules and let my adopted dog who would not play much, to choose the ball he liked from a drawer full of balls. He picked up a chuckit hollow silicone squeezy ball with holes for a rope and went to his crate and loved the feeling it gave him as he squeezed for some time. So then later when I threw that for him he was eager to get it and return, and when he let go of it I immediately returned it to him with a small toss up. He soon began pushing the ball into my hands to make me take it for more play. Then I slowly changed the rules to include teasing him with fake throws and so on, to amp him up even more. Playing that way is what he looks forward to more than getting treats and so I'll never give treats for that behavior of trading, when it's already the top reward for him to just play.

Kind of reminded me of ma and pa rocking on the front porch whining about the good old times when they could do whatever they wanted to their dogs.

On the topic of animal rights: I've been in the animal industry since the 80s when I believe the outside pressure began. What I saw, which was a mistake in my opinion, was that instead of behaving as the trained professionals that we are, we changed things to please the critics. These were, and are, people uneducated in our profession, basing their criticism on pure emotion. But we kept trying to please these people. And this is the result. I don't feel it's our job to educate people on the extremes - it's a distraction - and that's part of the plan.

There is an interesting video I believe it’s Bart or perhaps Helmut talking about animal rights and its origins. The Nazi regime was a big player in the early development of animal rights. I researched further and discovered other KZbin videos on this. It’s all part of an agenda with the end goal of people will not be allowed to even own animals. Ironically these agendas actually hurt animals, not help them. Just as not being able to humanly correct a dog but instead medicating them or euthanizing them instead.

Forvive ne if I am too much of a newbie , but what about ,whether 2 judges or 20. , No discussion allowed, and then combine their scores and divide by number of judges. And always multiple judges at regional, , National, and World championshios.
