When I started CrossFit in 2013, I got unbelievably lucky to become a member of one of the first CrossFit gyms in Belgium, where the owner was a former powerlifter / strongman. He thought me everything about conjugate training. To this day by far the best programming I’ve ever had in a gym. Brutal but extremely effective. Nowadays programming is unstructured and directed to beginners. At least in the gyms I have been at in Europe.

I couldn't agree with this more. In the early days external influence from the powerlifitng and weightlifting communities lead to some really novel integrations of their principles. Now most CF programming is just a random mash of movements without intention blindly sticking to the "strength + WOD" model. I appreciate the work you guys are doing - keep it up!

Totally agree with "more exposure to heavy lifts"! I switched 6 months ago to a similar approach: 1. for general strength 1x/week(squat, deadlift, weighted pullup) every week exposure over 90%+ increases only 1 or 2 lbs (play long game). 2. for the olympic lifts 1x/week "heavy daily" every week; Sounds simple and stupid but worked really well for me Ive never had so much progress in the whole last 3 years. To put into perspective: Iam 36, 8 years into crossfit, intermediate, train 4 sessions a week for 75min, every session strength part + sort of conditioning.

i agree with the 'stupidly simple' description. there's no point in over-thinking things when something as simple as this works so well.

My lower back has been blowing up lately on any metcons that have hinging with running/squatting, etc Going to start incorporating the hip thrust into my training to see if that helps! Thanks! It’s so annoying! Back literally blew up doing 115 lb DLs in a metcon but I can DL 475 with no issues….

1RM song - Moving bass by Rick Ross 😁 I'm with you both that we don't train on the >85% enough & for me that's where the sticking points start showing up

Been waiting for my snatch to go up for 9 years lol. Hit the lift several times but haven't beat it yet. I have not given up hope haha! Worst situation is I work both in kilos and pounds so I know where I'm at on both ends of the spectrum... :( haha

new solution: you're not allowed to load your own bar anymore. have someone else do it and sneakily throw the smallest of change plates on there
