Great to watch Darren. The torque those little shunters produce is mind-boggling! How I would've loved to be in this game around this time to watch double-headed 37s on the 6L90 to Norwich instead of the usual 66.

Great shots Darren - always amazed me how those little 08s generated sufficient grunt to get a fully loaded stone train moving from a standing start. Used to watch the 08 years ago at West Yard (Eastfield Signal Box) shifting impossible loads, sometimes it would be stationary with the wheels slowly moving round until they got a grip on the rails - was before I started filming

Awwww. Wot great action Darren and to have so many movements in one shot. Tuff little buggers them shunters eh...

Thanks Chris. Those shunters were almost worth their weight in gold you could say! Certainly this era was probably the swansong of loco variety in any quantity, but even today pick the right location and right day you can still see a few of these 'classic locos' around between the 66's.

lovely location, some top traction, i should have taken more vids back yester year! Glad there is a good variety on here for us all to reminice!!

Thanks Steve. Yes, the line is still very active today, and this spot has changed very little in fact. The 60's were still only a handful of years old at the time and well looked after, and other than being in different liveries you could still easily see 2 or 3 here now at the right time.

2 or 3 ain't good enough we should still have the 60s running instead of being more favored over with the 66s its a bloody joke really

It's a bit of a drive up to Peak Forest from where i live, but was worth the effort on this day to see all of these workings in a fairly short space of time. The 37's were running short on time on these workings, as were the ICI hoppers, so i'm pleased to have just a little piece of history recorded here.

Thanks Keith. If i recall this was all over about 90 minutes, so pretty good for a freight only line that's not a through route. Those 08's could take some punishment indeed, and it's a shame there's not many in use now with the mainline locos doing their own shunting in the main - although locos like the Class 20 at nearby Earles or 'Super Shunter' 60's at Hinksey/Eastleigh are always welcome :-)

Wonderful footage. Lots of action. That signalman would have been busy.

Thanks Ian. Yes, a small loco but one that could punch well above its weight i guess you'd say. Shame you don't have footage of those Peterborough 'Gronks' in action - in the same way i wish i'd got video footage from the late 70's and early 80's when i was just starting to get into railways.

Ive seen pairs of 37's thrashing around Buxton when parked up in my coach wishing i had a camera! tried it on my phone but it was crap! If only! The noise was awsum! And i prefere Brush Sulzer myself!

Still a good spot to go now having changed very little, and time it right and you'll still see a 'Tug' or two of course. Gotta film while you can as you never know how things might change........

A quick Google search should help - i found an image for Bachman RMC hoppers, so i guess there must be stockists of these around. Hope that helps.

Excellent video Darren, there was 4x 37's up Peak Forest today two came to rescue a failed pair on a network rail inspection saloon was a hellfire departure too just like old days! Check my youtube out if you want to see the vid of them leaving;-)
